    M50 Non-Vanos Block vs Vanos

Asking here because it refers to my build and you guys are the smart ones.

What I am wondering is if the Non-Vanos M50 block is the same as the vanos ones?

I am looking to start with a smaller bore block and bore it out so it has fresh round cylinder walls as my S50 has 250,000 miles and I'm sure they are decently ovalized. It would really help me get a move on my winter build as I have a Non-Vanos trash motor just sitting here.

AFAIK that would be correct, because I know you can take the B20 crank and put it in any other M50 to destroke to a 66mm stroke. All M20/M50 engines have the same bore spacing.

Yes you can put vanos on a nv head but it requires a little work to make it fit.
The head needs to be shaved slightly where the vanos solenoid sits and also the lower lip on the front cover flange.

You would also need to modify the cam sensor slightly by cutting off the plastic ridge on the sensor by the base.

You have to use a vanos cam sensor too. And obviously vanos cams.

Vanos engines also have smaller valve stem diamters, lighter valves and beehive springs, which the vanos do not have.

So non-vanos is better for boosting?
