    Hi gents...

I just received my scanner do-hicky...

and I am having the same IKE & DME connection issues as most. I have an 5/98, 740iA L , So I use the a Female OBD II to 20 Pin Adapter for under the hood. But still no connection to IKE or DME ;(

It doesnt say a production date on mine. It seems they keep switching up the layouts of these things...

Anyhoo....I keep seeing where you need to bridge pins 7 & 8... I took some pics of the inside..

Are Pins 7 & 8, bridged in the photos ?????

Thank You for all your help!!!

    xoxo

4 & 5 are bridged, there appears to be no connection to 7.

    Thank you in advance...
Got mine from Xcar360. Mine is doing the exact same thing. If I reinstall all software and drivers and somehow get this sorry-ass software to start, it says "error-hardware is not ready". Key is on, amber light on adapter is lit. Is my cable/adapter shot? I've had this thing less than one week. It worked great when I first got it. I was running on and old laptop with XP. Tried to use it on my netbook by downloading from Pa soft website (no CD drive in netbook). Now it won't work on the XP laptop anymore. I even tried a second XP laptop I have. Could the Pasoft software have damaged the actual hardware somehow? I've wasted so much time on this stupid crap.
Anyone with any suggestions, please help. I have reinstalled drivers from Xcar360 CD on my XP laptop many times, no improvement.

    Thanks

    sunroof recoding doesn't work

I'm using the bmw scanner v1.4 with an E39. When I recode the one touch option to NOT open or close the sunroof I click write and it confirms with an OK. When I test it out and hold unlock all four windows and the sunroof still open. Same with close, all close. I've unchecked the sunroof option and written to memory multiple times now and it never takes. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hey Guys,

I have a 98 Z3 (M52/E36) brought the 1.4 scanner and 20 pin adaptor I am getting "Connection Error IKE" only seeing DME and EWS? Check the plug 1/2 and 7/8 are soldered.

    Any idea ???

Should i unsolder the connections because I'm using the 20 pin adaptor

From my experience with 'bmw scanner' it does not work well with the e36, or equivalent. I also have the same problem and have not figured out a solution.

Does it work well enough to be able to do DME<>EWS pairing?

For those having issues with 'Connection to IKE', see this : "E38 / E39 / E36 / E46 Dash may require the use of a speed generation tool to ENABLE writing the IKE EEPROM by Diagnosis. See digrams below for connection."

Does that help? WTF is a 'speed generation tool'?

That is the only up side to this, is you can access the EWS and DME. Ill sell mine for cheap, I need to read ABS/ACS and I cannot with this.

No that's normal, just ignore the DWA error or install an alarm system

All i can access with the DME are: Read Memory, Errors, Reprogramming.
Can you connect it to your E36's OBDII port directly and see which modules can be read?

To answer my own question : I was only able to read the DME this way.

Red means the fault is current, which means your car still has a problem and it's coming from another part. So if you replaced the washer nozzle, then the problem must be somewhere else down the line, bad fuse, bad wiring.

I have a few yellow ones that appear, that cannot be cleared as well. Why? probably because the fault keeps coming back just long enough to trip the error, but isn't constant.

Doesn't seem to be available on newer models (no option for my 05). Seems to be a feature that is only available on early production preface lift models, or cars built in 03-02 and earlier.

Might work with other coding software like NCS Expert, but no promises.

Got an SES light on the way to school today. Started the car up perfectly fine. Engine ran smooth as butter as it always does, with no idle problems whatsoever. A few minutes in, when the car was heated up to operating temperature, the engine starts to shake ever so slightly. Nothing violent, just a little vibration. Idle starts to drop a bit , then go up, then go back down. No stalling. SES light comes on. I've never gotten an SES before, and the car's been pretty well maintained (so far, in about 11 months/ 5-6K miles, I've done new brake pads, oil change with 5w30, new air filter, new cabin air filter, new spark plugs (BKR6EQUP), new battery, new voltage regulator, VANOS seals, VCG, overhauled cooling system, new belts, pre-cat o2 sensors, and cleaned MAF. Manual transmission fluid replace, differential fluid replace, power steering fluid replace, clean ICV, and replace upper & lower intake boots are coming soon, and I'll be overhauling my suspension shortly. CCV and DISA will be done either next semester or during the summer). Since I had a quiz today (and because I can't manage to miss class), I wasn't able to turn around so I sucked it up & continued to drive to school. About 6-7 minutes later, the SES light goes away and car goes back to idling well with some very slight roughness. Overall, though, it was pretty decent. What the hell? I'm thinking, okay, hopefully it doesn't come back anytime soon (because obviously it would come back, but I don't want to deal with it right now when class is about to start), but I'll still scan the car at home later on in the day and fix whatever is wrong. Well, the way things go, the SES light came back about 10 minutes later. I was able to make it to school, but I'd say barely. The engine wanted to stall, and it was an even bigger nuisance driving uphill and having to apply more gas to get the car to go up or else it'd stall (due to a major loss in power and acceleration). I was at about 1/4 tank of gas. As of right now, I'm just going to take one of my parents' cars to school next week and the week after that - until the problem is resolved. Thank goodness it's Friday.

Scanned the car via PA Soft (v1.4.0.9) and under DME, here's what I had:

    # ERRORS DETAILS - DTC(hex)/PARAM(hex)
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cleared them, and resulted in these:

Wasn't able to take the car out for a drive after that, though. Anyone have any ideas?

Soldering pins #7and #8 solved the problem.I found that pin #7 is the DDE module terminal and #8 other modules.

And one question what is " shadow memory " ??

This where the errors scaned with Bmw Scanner 1.4.0 . Only IKE erorrs where RED I cheked Outside temp sens and it was cut off And the thermal will have to be replaced lol

5A/12 - Exhaust temperature before catalyst, bank 1, signal line, short circuit to negative
5B/12 - Exhaust temperature before catalyst, bank 2, signal line, short circuit to negative
5D/12 - Exhaust temperature after catalyst, bank 2, signal line, short circuit to negative
    3F/14 - Control unit self-test 3
34/02 - Solenoid valve, exhaust flap, short circuit to negative or open circuit

Wasn't able to take the car out for a drive after that, though. Anyone have any ideas?
This looks to me like the lambda solenoid is not working and thats why the engine is not working properly.

I got mine in the mail yesterday ( after 3 weeks) plugged it in, and was able to recode my preferences without a problem.

It taught me that I'll have to install an audible Siren/Buzzer for a few bucks and all is well.
    Thanks for the info.
