    Heater valve repair kit

    Hi all,

you all certainly know the issue with always cold or always hot air coming out of the vents. It's a well known fact that the seals inside the heater valve (OEM part#64 11 8 391 417, #7 in below drawing) just kind of disappear over the years and also the valves get stuck. Only solution from BMW is a brand new heater valve at outrageous cost (as usual).

I can now offer a complete rebuild kit which includes the seals as well as the brass valve inserts.
Personally I have already successfully repaired three heater valves this way. It isn't even necessary to remove the unit from the car.

Price per kit is US$75,- shipping included.

    Hi everyone.
All sets are gone but new ones are already ordered.
You can either purchase them now and be patient (~10 to 14 days) or wait until I post that they have arrived.

My valve assembly is making an intermittent clicking sound while AC is on. Is it telling me that it's time for a rebuild? I'm also getting a little condensation on the inside lower windshield at start up. If I turn on the AC the misting stops. Can the two be related?

Got mine in the mail today when I went to my folks to swap the Volvo for the 8. Thanks again! Really looking forward to putting these in even if I am sick of working on the 8 more than I have driven it.

Sounds like your car is ok in terms of heating/AC. This clicking sound are the two solenoids. In order to keep the set temperature they have to close and open the loop since they are digital. Open or close and nothing in between.

In regards to the AC you may not have realized it yet:
Start your car in the morning with the vent wheel set to 0 and your AC off and no AC is working. Surprise
Now switch it on and also the vent wheel and AC should run. Easy to determine because the aux. fan in front of the car operates at low speed. Now switch the AC off and you will realize that the compressor will still intermittently engage despite the fact that you have switched off the AC. When I first realized this I thought there is an electrical issue until I found out that it is supposed to be like that. Reason is, that the windshield fogs up very easily on these cars and therefor BMW designed the AC this way.

Besides this E31 specific design it is always the best way to defog the windows in the car, even if it's freezing cold outside. AC doesn't only cool down the air but also reduces the humidity. Cold air can't hold as much water as hot air. One reason why we don't have hurricanes in the winter time

if you read the first post you have the price.
Install links I haven't available. But I'd say it is as complicated as changing a wheel
