SpeedFreak Detailed: Alpine 135i - BIMMERFEST prep

Well gang, bimmerfest has obviously come and passed, and I admit I slacked on getting this one posted. I've been super busy, and almost had this write up done only to have my PC crash on me before I saved my work. Anyway, better late than never right?

Will contacted me a while back about doing the prep work on his super nice 135i for BIMMERFEST this year. He's spent a lot of time tastefully modding the car's appearance with carbon parts, as well as increasing the suspension and engine performance. It obviously needed to look the part for the show, so we decided on an interior/engine/single stage exterior paint correction.

    Products used:

    • Meguiar's Quick Interior Detailer
    • Aerospace 303
    • Mother's back to black

    • Meguiar's APC

Who says you can't get depth in white paint??

Now, since I don't claim to be a professional photographer, I decided to leave the post detail shots to one. Will had been looking to have his car shot after I finished with it, and was lucky enough to find Justin Capolongo, aka Vdub_lover on E90post. With Justin's permission, I'm reposting a few of his shots. They're obviously not mine, so please be respectful with copying as he has the rights to them.

That being said, lets have a look. I'm so envious of what a great camera can do in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing.

I respect your work so much. Damn.

And I love the 135. Not sure why people hate it. Looks better than 90% of the new BMWs

Can you explain to me what the Iron X is and what it does? I'm a detailer by trade (was a hobby, now a job).

Also, some info on the magic green/purple wheel cleaner?

Iron X is an iron decontaminate that is applied to the paint AFTER the wash phase but BEFORE the clay. In laymans terms, Iron particles imbed themselves into the pores of the paint over the life of the car. Iron is very corrosive, and will break down paint over time. Iron X is a clear liquid that is sprayed onto the paint, glass, wheels etc and turns a purple/reddish color when it reacts with and breaks down iron particles. It's a cool product because you can actually see it working.

The wheel cleaner is made by Sonax (available from autogeek) and is called Full Effect
