anyone seen a chopped bimmer? got the pics? Thinking the logistics of a task like this, and you would have to add to the roof to remove from the pillars. Too much math.... well would be an interesting thing to talk about.
also anyone convert an e21? Baur clones, chops, extensive refabrication all i would be interested in seeing. blasphemy i know, but good conversation. say you had one with a fudged up roof...
also whats the curb weight of a baur? how did they reinforce to make up for the loss of structural integrity? buddy of mine chopped the roof off a neon, and the doors wouldn't open cause the frame was "taco"ing up and pinching them in untill he built a cage.![]()
that's the only one that i can think of.
midlifebmw: "E21's always love you, they just let you know who's the boss..."
Spdermnky: "Yes that is a lot of empty wine bottles...its for science."
holy shit dude. thats just rad. lose the spoiler though. My love for military aircraft and aircraft styling in general just got stoked! spitfire graphics FTW
looks like he cut about four inches up the front windshield pillar, an inch up the center and shaved the rear A pillar from the bottom. got any profiles or shots from the rear?
^ not trying to embarrass you, but time for an auto terminology lesson.
the pillars holding up the roof are;
'A' - front corner, at the windshield.
'B' - between the front and back side glass.
'C' - the rear corner.

Ouch dude, forgive my wealth of misinformation.can i go 15 mins without having to put my foot in my mouth?
type "rusty slammington" into google images
I want to see a pagoda topped E21.
Uh, the nose art also looks like the "Flying Tigers" squadron pre-WWII stationed in China to combat the Japanese. They flew P-40 Tomahawks with the sharktooth mouth at the nose. Solid aircraft that was too outmatched in maneuverability by the zero, but made up for it with great pilots and a bad-assed airframe.
Nice statement in any case. We saw a pretty custom 5 series at Bimmerfest that looked right out of Death Race 2000. Must be in the owner genes for the E24...
I still drive daily with no commute...

The intercooler was from a skyline or 240sx motor he swapped in. Somewhere on the stanceworks forum is the whole story of the car with tons of pictures. It's a long read but very interesting.
They may be stupid questions to you, but I still don't know the answer; therefore I ask.
Chopped E21:
Baur chopped the roof of and replaced it with the bars you still see when the roof is opened. No further strengthtening is needed.

Axcidentally found this thread. I have evenly chopped (4") my e21 (http://gallery.blastnet.ee/karla/bmw/DSC_0535.JPG.html), but I have not come across any others. Would be great to see other approaches.
Trippy, that doesn't even look like an e21 anymore. You definitely took a different route than the average guy. Chopped, square projector beam lights, steele wheels with white walls. I had to look on a map to even figure out where Estonia is.

I'm digging the turbo M42 swap and custom stereo install as well! Nice work on the headlight housings. I'm guessing that is fiberglass from the look of it?
