| X3, X5 & X6 (E53, E70, E71, E83) (2000 - current) BMW invented a new word when they introduced their SUVs to the world: Sport Activity Vehicle. Sportier and with more car like agility than the standard SUV, with all of the hauling perks for a more active lifestyle. Introduced in 1996, the X5 continues to be a hit. The younger sibling, the X3, was born in 2003. |

For all X5 3.0L owners...
I just recently found out that the M54B30 engine used on the E53 X5s uses 8qts of engine oil!
The parts dept. at my dealership has been giving the techs 7qts for the engine oil and inspection services under warranty. We all thought that the new 6 cylinder engines still uses 7qts but the oil sump on the X5 is totally different and is larger. It could be the same with the 330xi. I do not know if all the BMW dealers are aware of this or not so if you do bring it in for any service wether its oil, inspection, electrical problems, request 8qts of oil and have the dipstick checked. Better yet, check it out when you can and if you're on the "min" section of the stick, pour about a quart in. It should be at the "max" end. |
