I want to make a list of universal or just other 4 wire oxygen sensors that we can just lob the connector off of then put ours on
So I do believe that these are a few I have learned so far :
Bosch 15123
Bosch 15278
Bosch 13869
Walker 250-24200
Beck/Arnley 156-8400
Go ahead and correct and add more to this list I wanna end all threads about this stuff I will continually edit this first post to keep it up to date

it also depends on the engine type, you cannot just say fits E34.
But for Bosch it is very easy, google for Bosch car parts finder and on their website you can select any car and find the correct Bosch parts number.

So today I did the Bosch 15123 and just soldered it in and it works perfectly!!! No more codes what so ever!!! it's with in the 0-1 volt range and seems to be perfect.
Beck/Arnley 156-8400. Running one in mine, have used them for years with no issues at all.

How much did the generic run you, if you don't mind me asking?
No current BMWs.
1994 Roadmaster Wagon
1974 Alfa Romeo Berlina
The Bosch 15123 cost me 23.50 at autozone It is working fine.
for any other V8 owners, i have a pair of the Bosch 13869 listed up top spliced on my 540i/6, fixed my CEL, no issues.
^^^ Great info Brother!
Anybody have the wiring diagram for the Beck Arnley 156-8400? I just wired mine up on my OBD2 E36 and it runs WORSE than with the flaky sensor I had. I figured out the pairs of wires with my multimeter, but just guessing on the polarities and haven't had any luck searching yet.

Bosch 15716, 15717, and 15718 all work on the M60 (they're all the same sensor, just with different length pigtails).
It's ALL ball bearings nowadays!
for the bosch sensors, is the wiring obvious? are they color coded?
Note that you are not supposed to solder O2 sensor connections as this changes the resistance and will lead to incorrect readings. Only crimped connections should be used.
You can basically use any 4-wire O2 sensor, they all read from 0-1 like a toggle. The differences are in the quality, wire length, connectors, whether they breath through the wires or through the body.

Yes, Bosch uses Black, Grey, and two whites. Black is signal, grey is ground, and the two whites are the non-polarized heater circuit wires.
Well, most have a 1V range, but some sensors (many Chrysler engines, and I think maybe the E38) actually have a non-zero reference voltage. It may go from 5V to 6V, for example.

on the stock o2 sensor... is the wiring the same color as the universal replacements? grey to grey, black to black, and both white to both whites? and does it matter which white goes which white? sorry for the questions, just trying to get my research done before attempting the work. thanks in advance
I just installed a Bosch 15123 on bank 1 of my 95 540i and it's putting out the signal it should.
NGK/NTK O2 sensor catalog , also shows the plug type you need https://www.ngk.com/Automotive-Oxyge...-NGK-c904.aspx
