Custom 335d Intake
As the 335d owner community knows, theres simply no intakes on the market for our cars. So, I decided to fab up my own (my car is a 2011 335d). Right now, I've simply started with an open element filter. Next steps are:
1. Work out some fitment issues, particularly how to best secure the filter. Maybe include a small 45 degree coupler before the MAS. Currently the filter is held tightly in place as its wedged up against the fender wall.
1. Fabricate a ram-air tube to fit the OEM opening
2. Fabricate a heat shield, using the stock air box bolt points (although at this point the filter/intake pipe have not been hot, even after throttle-heavy driving).
3. Fabricate a new intake pipe that goes from the MAS to the turbo.
So far, I have to say I'm loving the way the car drives, even with this simple mod. I cant say that its making any more power, but the additional air flow definitely helps with throttle response. The turbos are LOUD, and you can really hear the air being sucked in. There is also a very loud BOV/bypass valve-like sound which is great.
I haven't datalogged (particularly for air intake temperatures) but no issues with my JBD tune. The BT tool picks up no codes. Hopefully I can have the whole thing finished soon!

I've seen certain places say that short-ram intakes actually reduce hp. Not sure how it would work on diesels/e90's.
The air doesn't get the chance to 'funnel' as it would in a long-ram intake.

nice. I'd love to see more mods out there for the diesel!

Yeah, I'm working on fabbing up a slightly longer pipe that wouldnt have the filter directly attached the MAF. I think the filter-on-MAF setup would actually cause problems long term (I'd imagine incorrect MAF readings), but its just on there now as a test run.
