All right...
So as I have said, it has been a real PITA to get some photos posted. I was going to take some nice pics today but I was just too busy working. Looks like I am going to drive the 7 to Canada...
Anyway, here are some photos (taken from my old iPhone) of the work done by Mike and his son. More photos will be edited into this post later.
Started the day like this.....
Parts removal begins...
Rear deck out....
My old purple deck.
Headliner out
Sunroof out.
Stock cardboard sound insulation......
Sunroof sun shade removed....
Cardboard comes out, Dynamat goes back in!!!!!
And some over the plastic sunroof cartridge.
Time to clean some glue... good thing we had some help.
Glueball anyone??
And then you have clean parts to recover!
Fabric layout...
Start to glue it down 12-14" at a time....
Stick it back in and bask in the pure sex of it all..... (That sounds dirtier than I meant it to)
Notice the M5 "Leather Visors"
Rear deck too!!!
So now I am only waiting for my package to arrive from across the pond to finish the job......
Ok, well that is about it for tonight. I will take some better pics over the weekend when I install the rear climate controls, MediaBridge, rear sub and maybe finish the Hydro tunk.... so may things to do....
Shled, I will photo all the rear climate control harness for you.
John
Very nice, love the Dynamat also !!!

Xephius, how did you remove the sunroof shade?

Great project. X can you elaborate more on that Dynomat stuff? Where is it sold?
TIS said to do it this way....
1) Open the sunroof into vent mode.
2) Slide the shade open
3) Carefully remove the billows ( I just folded them down and removed them later)
4) Remove the 3 screws from each side of the sunroof behind the bellows.
5) With someone's help, tilt the sunroof forward, then press in on the hinges so the they pop the guide pin free.
6) Set the sunroof aside.
7) Slide the sunshade forward and remove the 3 torqs (#10) from each side of the share. 2 of the torqs will hold down a large copper spring.
8) Slide the screen back, then up and out.
Worked for me.

Dynamat is an acoustical dampening material that is common here in the states at any Pro Audio shop. Mike gets in in 3x4 sheets, that made it easy to install! Its not cheap, but it works great. Just google Dynamat for details, lots of internet vendors as well.

That's what I've been waiting to see. Great job!
Totally stock 97 740iL except for SatRad
That looks amazing! Great job and thanks for the pictures!!!
Great pics John!
Have a technical question, don't send me a PM but post it on the board so others can benefit from it!
Yes, I have see the stitched tops before. When I first saw it, I really wanted it. But in truth, I am glad I didn't do it. There would have been no other top stitching in the car to match it. Also, the main reason they did it was to allow the material to stretch enough to get into the pockets. Its a real PITA. Mike was able to use a great deal of hand strength, and patience to get them tucked down and in. He only glued a small portion of the liner in at a time to get it right.
That said, if you can land me a set of black wood grips I will be eternally grateful!!!!
John
Looks real nice!
Dude very nice!!! I like it!!!
Fantastic, really an inadequate word... sexy may be closer.
What kind of spray adhesive do you like for headliner gluing?
...and is that microfiber? it has a suede-like density in the pictures, but couldn't be real suede...could it?
!

awesome job....WHAT KIND OF GLUE WAS USED?

Is there anything better than 3M?
NP on the pics Shled.
I believed he used 3M upholstery contact cement sprayed out of what looked like a standard paint sprayer. He said that the stuff you get at the hardware or craft store does not set up fast enough or sticky enough. You can buy this stuff at any upholstery shop in pint/gallon cans. Mike also said he keeps the glue in the paint pot but plugs the holes after cleaning it each use. Then once a year he throws the gun away and buys another one.
I am building a plug in harness for my Resler inteface now. Once I am done (and am feeling a little better) I will go out and start laying out the rear climate controls.
John
Very nice upgrade you've done, Xephius, and thanks for sharing the photos of the progress.
