So on my 328i e36 my power locks arent working anymore, my key less entry remote arms the alarm but does not lock the doors, nor does pressing the lock botton on the center by the gear shift. The only thing that works is using my key to physically turn the lock to open the door, and when i do so, only the door that i used the key on open. Example(I unlock my driver side door, but to let in a passenger i must climb inside my car and pull up the door lock) So i turn to you guys to help me, ive looked at the fuse box and nothing indicates a power door or window lock fuse. So Yeah
Thanks
Brandon
So you're saying you didn't even check any fuses? You just looked at the list on the lid?
the only time that happend to me was when the battery died on the remote
fuses were checked and all worked out fine, and the thing with the matter is that the car still chimes to arm the alarm
A few things come to mind here.
First check the switches in the door strikers. If one isn't working correctly the car will act as if one of the doors is open.
Second is you may have a faulty ZKE module. Since it is an issue with all the doors and locks and not just one or two it points to a system problem rather than an individual door problem.
Last you should check the "lock" button on the center console. Pull it out and test it with a meter. It may be faulty and it could cause an issue with all the door locks since it controls all four.

First: There should be a seperate fuse for the keyless control module. You should pull the glovebox and find it. Its part of the control module harness.
Each of the door strikers has a small button on it. You can open the door and push the button with your finger to see if the lights come on/off when you push/release it. If the interior lights don't react to it then its bad. You can also wedge something in the stiker and try the door locks. The car won't lock if it thinks the door is open.
The only way I know to test the ZKE module is to replace it with a working unit.
If you pull the "lock" button out of the center console you can put a meter across the terminals and push/release the button to see if its working.
I found that the striker on mine has worn down a bit, so I readjusted the latches out a hair and it solved my door problems. I read somewhere that someone used JBweld on theirs, I think I'm just going to replace mine... BMW told me 110 each havent checked anywhere else yet

I am having the same issue and I have new strikers in the door... waiting to see what any of you have figured out. ill double check the new strikers to be sure thats not the issue.
Mine Beeps and arms the alarm but does not lock the doors or trunk.
my central locks don't trigger at all now, I havent put in new strickers but I honestly don't think thats the problem right now.
Does anyone know if the crash alarm relay (mines removed right now) will cause the central locking module to not trigger? if not then I think my central locking module is toasted

If your crash module is missing then I would have to ask if the locks ever worked after it was remved? Did this problem start before it was removed? Why was it removed.
i removed it because my 4 ways were coming on by them selves and i tracked it down to be that, the locks were working intermitently before i removed it which has led me to belive they are linked to the crash alarm relay

Looks like we got the same problem

I still cant figure it out.
How do you remove the ZKE?
Have you solved this problem yet? I am having the same basic problem. I am thinking it is the ZKE but want to find out if that fixed someone elses issue before I pull it out. I'm also having a hard time finding a replacement ZKE on the web. Anyone know what the dealer cost on this would be?
Thanks,
Charles
I have a spare ZKE for a 94-95 e36. $50 shipped.
Can you give me the part number from the spare ZKE you have? I want to match it up with mine. I have a June 95 318, and it seems there were some changes in this department in mid 95.

I have three
GMIV-Low BMW 61.35-8 360 060 It has 4 connectors black/yellow/green/black
GMIV-Low BMW 61.35-8 353 095 It has 5 conectors black/yellow/green/black/white
GMIV High BMW 61.35-8 369 484 It has 5 connectors black/maroon/green/black/white
It's probably the first one - mine has 3 connectors on the front and one on the back. I'll check the part number when I get home from work tonight.
Thanks,

From your description it has to be the first one.
I am finally getting around to removing the unit so I can look at the part number. Any advice on removing the connectors? I can't tell if the thing that looks like a locking mechanism is holding the connector in or holding it together...

So today my car just had this issue.... Any resolution?

I just fixed mine, I had a dead wire in the firewall, I ran a direct line from inside the fuse panel through the firewall to the drivers door harness, system works great now
