Well, I spoke too soon. Unfortunately, we are getting no buy-in from other chapters and the numbers just do not make sense. It was going to be upwards of 5k out of the Chapter's funds, and that's after charging the attendees for the parking and hospitality portions. So, there will not be a Peachtree Chapter corral this year.

That sucks. I was really looking forward to it. How about if the Porsche club makes it up to us?

wtfomgbbq?!?! The one year I join bmwcca and plan on going to Petit, and the corral gets cancelled. Bummer.

I understand though. Everything land/sponsor/event related at Petit is retarded expensive. I think it was like $1500 for a little 10x10 square for the SPSU FSAE team 2 years ago. I can't imagine what a whole parking area costs now.

Yeah...think ten times that for what we were looking at.

Yeah, we're sorry about the lack of a car corral, but the catering requirement made it impossible (unless we charge our members some ungodly amount to park in the corral and eat). We agonized over this decision for a long, long time.

My group just parks our cars next to each other on turn 2/3. Seems to get the job done.

    Shawn,
Have you checked with BMWCCA about some support from them?
They usually will kick in and especially since the BMW's are running at
Petit and are in the race for the series.
United and others have kicked in also.
It would be pretty embarrassing not to have a coral for all the fans that will come from all over the US just to see how BMW does.
Not sure who arranged the coral last year but you might want to check with
    Patty too.
Of course last year O Fest was here and that made it a done deal.

    Gary,

All of that has been considered and taken into account.

    Well thats to bad.
Seems like BMW could afford to support their race team in different parts of the US.
This just came from the BMWCCA web site and was posted yesterday. 8/17

Billions in 2010, up from mere millions in 2009

BMW's second-quarter results have produced a stunning net profit, some seven times stronger than anticipated. If the income and profit numbers were written as strings of zeros, this story would look like computer code.

BMW spokesmen said that net profit climbed to €834,000,000 ($1,100,000,000) from €121,000,000 in the same period a year earlier. Dow Jones analysts had projected a slightly more modest figure of €674,000,000. The fall of the euro has raised the value of dollar-denomination sales.

"The evident market recovery since the beginning of the year continued to gain pace during the second quarter 2010," said BMW, with practically British understatement.

The group delivered 380,412 BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce vehicles in the second quarter, a gain of 12.5%, and posted an 18.3% jump in sales to €15,348,000,000. Operating earnings before interest and tax soared to €1,717,000,000 from just €169,000,000 in an extremely weak second quarter in 2009. For the first six months of 2010, BMW swung from a loss of €31,000,000 in the first half of 2009 to a profit of €1,158,000,000.

Luxury-car makers have seen a complete turnaround this year, with emerging countries like China setting records. Looking ahead to the rest of 2010, BMW anticipates a unit-sales gain of around 10% to more than 1,400,000 vehicles and profit margins on core operations expected to be more than 5% for the automobiles segment. That is expected to climb to 8%-10% by 2012.

BMW motorcycles also did well, despite unfavorable market conditions, with a 21.6% rise in sales to 36,175 units, while the financial services division sold 3% more contracts.—Paul Duchene

    ...

Funny you say that, Gary. There was actually support from BMW of North America. However, the net cost to the chapter were still to high to make this workable.

Believe me, I personally spent hours trying to find a way to make this happen.

Yeah, a lot of time went into number crunching. We concluded that there are a lot of better ways to spend our Chapter's money that will benefit far more members...
