Inspired by this car:
I put AC Schnitzer Type II Racings in genuine Z3m fitment on my "watch" list.
I had forgotten about them over the past 6 months whilst concentrating on sourcing the Type III's.
Would you believe it, the same week as I fit the Type III's and a set of 18 inch genuine 3 piece split rim Ac Schnitzer Type II racing in 8.5 ET38 and 9.5 ET9 (ie perfect Z3m fitment with no spacers and max rear dish) came up for sale on German eBay.
I've been so lucky with so many eBay bargains this year but was prepared to pay a fair amount for these as they are sooooooo rare with rear 9.5ET9 fitment.
I won the auction for ............ £297  WOW what a bargain.
Shipping was not cheap from Germany £163 but they did arrive within 2 days.
So for the pricely sum of £460 I have some very rare wheels (the bonus is the tires are only 50% worn and in Z3m sizes as these came off a Z3m, I may / may not fit new)
I knew they needed a refurb and the seller was pretty honest with his description. There is minor curbing on all and one rear has a section of heavy curbing. All the centres are in great condition though with all logos fully intact.
So I'll get them to the refurbers later this week for a barrel / outer rim refurb. Worst case I may need 1 new rim if its beyond repair.
Hopefully I will get fronts/rears looking something like these:
Fronts
Rears
So Type II's & Type III's down, Type I's to go (which were not "officially available)

You are a lucky man. Beautiful wheels, great choice, and the perfect fitment MZ3 specific!
Dope set of wheels broski. These are definitely hotter than the 2-piece Type 3s.

The last true Schnitzer split rims, I'm a happy man
Hate you! j/k Those are real beauties and soooo much nicer than the type 3s. Enjoy!

Sharp, sharp, sharp...
I am so picky when it comes to wheels that there are only a handful that I really like....these are added to that list!
very nice - :drooling:

A bit off topic, but I'm also looking at set of AC Schnitzer wheels, the sizes (all 4) are 8 1/2 Jx 18H2 ET43 ... would those fit my M roadster?

not sure if I liked that roady with the LM's better or the ACS's.

ugh, those are the exact wheels i want, sooooooooo perfect !
They will fit but.......
The fronts are fine and are what Schnitzer provided for the Z3m but with a 7mm spacer and longer bolts (to take the ET down to 36 as per the type III currently on my car).
The rears though would need a BIG spacer to pull them out to the wheel arch and you will totally lose any "dish" on the rears. IMHO the rears are not suitable for the ///M's (but that set is great for a non ///M Z3 ;-)
very nice!
I would probably die for a set of Type IIs.

hi guys
this is mine with the type 3 rim.
Didn't they make inserts for the Type IIIs to turn them into a type II?

they sure did. I don't see many type 3 owners running with insert though.

I considered the inserts for my Type III's but
a) they scratch the paintwork when fitted/removed so you really need to leave them on if fitting
b) I love the aggressive look of the Type III racing with the "open" wheel
c) but the type II's have a more classic look and a much deeper lip on the rear
So both Type II and Type III are the perfect combo for me.
Problem is I've currently got 4 sets of wheels (OEM/Breyton Magic Racing/Type II/Type III) mmmmm something may have to go
Update: FITTED !
I collected the wheels from the refurber earlier this week. They did a great job for £250 cash. I decided not to get the centre pieces refurbed as they only had a few small marks and were original including the AC Schnitzer transfer. I'm so glad I didn't as they have hand polished so well.
The rims all had curb marks and one rear was pretty heavy but all barrels where perfect albeit showing a little corrosion so decided to get those done at the same time as the rims.
This is a pic of what was the worst wheel (shown after refurb and hand polished centre piece)
And the all important original centre piece transfer
I had chance to get the wheels balanced and fitted this afternoon.
I was going to fit a new set of Falkens all round (as per my type III's) but they came with mixed continental and dunlops with 5-6mm tread so I could not justify throwing these away.
Interestingly I ended up fitting 235/40/18 front and 275/35/18 rears on my Type III split rims to give some rim protection and they fitted perfectly but the 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18's fitted to the Type II's fit pretty well (I would maybe go 265's on the rears).
The expensive aluminium centre caps also fit both wheels.
Wheels fitted:
Total cost to me fitted = £710 which I'm pretty pleased with given how rare the Type II racing are in specific Z3m fitment (ie no spacers needed and deep dish).
So I now have a choice between two of my favourite ever wheels....
Type II's as above and Type III's
Its been a good Z day
