Since I didn't want to buy a used steering wheel, I decided to cough up $38 shipped for the Leatherique steering wheel kit.
My wheel's leather was gone on practically half of it. After all, I gotta say I love it now!
Before:
After:
Kit: (4oz each)
I only used 1/3 of the prepping agent, 1/4 of the dye, and 1/5 of the Klear Kote.

Looking good!
No BITCHASSEDNESS!!
Looks much improved! If you want to have a thicker steering wheel, I recommend the wheelskins stitched leather covers.

Wow, looks great. That stuff works well.

I would be careful with that stuff. Its really more like a vinyl once it dries, I used it on my old E36 on the seats and eventually it started to rub off. I imagine on a steering wheel and the constant touching and so on, that it would rub off even faster.

Looks good.
But what prep work was done to the wheel before? Did you have to rough it up before applying the leatherique?
Follow me on Instagram @SEVEN40iL
yeah I sanded it down...instructions called for 400grit but I used 200grit first, then 400 with the prep agent....when i was sanding it I was like "holy shyte, I hope this works!" because if it didn't, then I was screwed. put on the dye and let it dry for 1 day. then topped it off with the klear kote to shine it up.
I'm amazed on the outcome!! Keep us posted on how long it lasts!
Have a technical question, don't send me a PM but post it on the board so others can benefit from it!
^that's my only concern...I'll do.
Is it just me or the flash from the camera? It looks a lot more gray than before.
What method did you use to apply the product?
NICE job!!
ok so you did this on the 7th, it's been about 2 weeks. any signs of it wearing off? i was looking at new wheels but if this holds, then i'd rather use the cash elsewhere.
EDIT: And where'd you get the kit from?
Another EDIT: Leatherique.com, duh.

That is nice work I have same problem looking for result too. How it feel after all the wheel got sticky or just smooth as before.
The wheel looks gray because of the camera flash. I too was like what the hell?
I used the instructions that were included in the kit.
here are pics of the steering wheel about 2 weeks later. btw since I still have over 90% of the Klear Kote (from leatherique), I put some once a week or so when I clean the car to keep the wheel shiny.

Im still curious as to how you actually applied the product, was it sprayed on with a gun or did you use a brush?
Also, are you adding more Klear Kote to achieve a shinier look or because you feel that the old layer might be wearing off?
I applied the product with a brush (from the 99cent store). The Klear Kote I applied with a lint-free microfiber towel.
The only reason I add more Klear Kote is to keep the wheel shinnier. When I clean the inside of the car I usually use Armor All on everything except the wheel...I use the Klear Kote on the wheel. Like I said before, I have probably only used about 5% of the 4oz bottle so I got plenty of it left.
Armour All? E gads...

I just started 2 put a leather cover on cause mine is cracking up kinda bad
just an update for you all...
was cleaning the car today...its been 7 months since I originally used the leatherique product and I have to say that its holding up.
I have only applied the Klear Kote (included in the kit) once (about 3 months later) but nothing else.
The wheel is still shiny.
I am doing the shift knob and boot today with the leatherique since I still have plenty left.
Great to read the update and know this product works as well as it does. I have a few steering wheels that could use some love and never knew that Leatherique had a product for them. Thanks for taking the leap of faith with trying the product and letting us know the outcome!
