The bearing shell thickness is marked by "notches" in the crankcase and paint markings on the counterweights of the crankshaft. You need to pair the correct colored bearings to the paint marking on the crank.

The part numbers you listed above are all 70mm with the only difference being the color...

the block and the crank are not the same so i would imagine that the notches and original colors be of no use. having spoken to VAC they recommended going the middle size, and advised that each color is a variation of .001. with that said we measured the wear on the crank and concluded what ive posted above, that all the bearings will be 70mm, but now i need to narrow it down even more with the colors. but i dont know what each color signifies by itself which is where im lost. i understand the colors being what they are on new cranks and engines, but since the crank is used it throws a curve into the situation.

You should measure your bearing and measure your crank and rods and mains and not guess

We start with the factory suggested bearings based on the color on the crank and then install and mic them to ensure they are within our specs. We will often find one or two that aren't and we will use slightly thicker or thinner bearings for those. There are also white bearings that can really help you get close to the desired specification that we will sometimes use.

    Enjoy.
    Chris.
