    Procharged E36...

I was bored this weekend so I decided to mock up a little C1 Procharger onto my "daily driver". Dunno where this will lead to but should be fun nonetheless.

Specs on the self contained C1 headunit are 4.70:1 stepup ratio with an 80K max impeller speed. The pulley I have now is a 3.40 inch.

I started out with a cardboard template. After I got the location where I wanted it I then traced the template onto some masonite and sanded it to fit with as little slop as possible.

Even with it being made out of wood its pretty stiff but I do plan on putting a brace on the back side. I will manage that after I get the aluminum plate back from the machine shop.

    Cheers !
    MikeD.

Thanks for the compliments everyone !

The machine shop Im taking it to today has a "duplicator" machine that if you have a sturdy template it traces and cuts it out of aluminum at the same time.

    Voila exact copy !

That is pretty god damn awesome if you ask me. I really like how you did the bracket, nice job man.

I dont know much about the procharger unit you are using, but how much boost do you think you can run with it?

Well thats the million dollar question...Ive been trying to calculate it and cant come up with a real number. I measured my crank pulley at 5.58" and my sc pulley at 3.40".
With those numbers I come up with 53994 rpms. Which is nowhere close to the 80K max impeller speed.

The head unit is capable of 24lbs of boost but Id be happy with 8-10lbs of boost.

ahh I see. Are smaller pulleys readily available for the prochargers?

Actually I just did a quick search and I saw a 3.00" pulley for $89. Would that up the boost a lot?

Either way, I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Good luck!

They are available but not so many choices for the C1/C2 since they have a smaller 17mm shaft.

Can you PM me the link for that pulley you found ?? Thanks !

Sure, I'll post it right here for you. Just noticed this is for a 6-rib belt, but it looks like that is what you are currently using, so thats OK.

    http://www.houseofboost.com/store/su.../prod_178.html

This is the standard pulley section and I just saw this there:

Applications that use the standard series pulleys:
    P1SC, P1SC-1, P1SC-2, D1,D1SC, F1, F1-A, F1-C,F1-R Superchargers
Not sure if thats what you need or not.

Haha sweet - this is exactly what I did when I put the ASA TM-12 on my car. Carboard, then wood, then plasma cut aluminum. Awesome man!

PS forget calculating boost, thats based on the motors "resistance" to flow. How much CFM does it move at 55k RPM?

+1. My friends s52 c30 maxes out at a different psi than my m52 c30 with the same pulley.

It's awesome seeing someone pursuing a project like this.

Thanks ! I didnt see a "Compact" series on that list...Ill call them and check for sure.

I did speak with Procharger today and the tech told me that with the 3.40 pulley Im not hardly spinning it at all. He went on to say that the C1 was tested over 100K rpms and didnt come apart so I will likely never over spin it. He suggested to go bigger with my crank pulley before upgrading the SC pulley but thats not really an option for this setup. They did give me part numbers for the 3.2 and 3.0" SC pulleys but I might have to get a 2.8" made

Good luck with belt slip on the stock 6 rib accessory drive with just a 5.5 crank pulley and a 2.80 blower pulley. I had belt slip with a 2.80 blower pulley, 6.00 crank pulley and an 8 rib drive. This was with a "high traction" pulley. It worked OK, but there was slippage.
