Post Brake lining wear warning reset - E60

I changed my brake pads & sensor cable, but was left with the warning light. I searched the forum and tried the other ways to reset without success.
So after much trial and error I found a way to reset the warning light for my 2006 530i.

    - Put key in ignition
    - press start stop engine (without pressing brake) (accessory mode, radio & heater should function).
    - press and hold in the trip reset button (located just below speedometer on left side
    - you will see the warning triangle in display between the speedometer and tachometer(takes about 3 seconds), continue to hold until you see a different symbol.
    - release trip button
    - press trip button in and release. You will be stepped through all of the service checks. (oil change, smog, spark plugs, rear brake lining, ?, front brake lining, brake fluid)
    - when you get to the one you want to reset, press and hold the trip button until you get a message "RESET?" (about 5 seconds)
    - release the trip button, then repress and hold the trip button until the miles under the RESET become "-------".
    - release trip button
    - press the Start Stop Engine button (this will turn off the accessory mode)
Your brake lining warning should be reset.

    This did if for me.
I would imagine this will work for resetting your oil change and any others.
    Enjoy

    Reset doesn't work

so I tried to reset the front brake warning light but while performing it the mileage indicator on iDrive changed from 800 miles to -9000 miles and now it displays that I need to contact bmw service asap.
Keep in mind I just changed my front brake pads but did not replaced wear indicator, would that be why I can't reset front brake wear indicator?

    Question No Start/Stop button

I will be changing the brake pads, oil/filter and cabin air filters soon on my 06 530i. As I don't have a start stop button how does the procedure change to reflect this? Any help would be appreciated.

    Service Light Reset Instructions

Just tried this on my 5 series, worked great...

    From Bentley Publishers:
To reset brake pad (lining) indicator:
    1. Turn ignition to Terminal 15. Terminal 15 is ignition on engine off. (push start button so all warning lights illuminate on instrument panel).
    2. Close all doors.
    3. Press and hold the Instrument Cluster Set/Reset button
    for 10 seconds.
    4. The upper display in the Instrument Cluster will be
illuminated with a Service Item (example: An oil can is the
designation for Oil Service). The lower display in the
Instrument Cluster will indicate the remaining time or
mileage left for that Service Item.
Pressing the button repeatedly will allow the display to
scroll through all of the Condition Based Service Items.
5.When brake linning indiator appears in message center release trip reset button.
6.Reset message will appear, push once more.
    System is now reset.

I had the same negative mileage problem that everyone else is having. I flushed my brake fluid and changed my pads, I had no problem reusing the current sensor. I drove around all day and finally searched tonight to see how to reset my brake fluid warning. I reset my brake fluid warning, and all was well, until I decided to reset the brake pad mileage... as soon as I did it, I got the warning that my pads were dead. Ugh. I did a quick search and found this link:
    https://wiki.bentleypublishers.com/d...W+5+Series+E60

It spells out that if the sensor was even barely skinned (which mine was), then it will need to be replaced. Great... I don't even want the bloody pad sensors in the first place. lol Anyway, I hope this helps all of you with the same problem.

    Hello,
I just did front rotors, pads and sensor on my 2006 530I, I followed the above reset procedure with success however, upon resetting I'm only getting 25000 miles before next pad change..
Does that sounds right? I figured it would be more.. the rear brakes were done by the dealer about 5 months ago and they were reset for well over 25k,, don't remember the exact number but the Idrive reads 29k before next change for the rear..

    Any input on this?

    Thanks

Rear pads last lot longer than front pads.

Nice clean explanation, worked great and now I can reset all the other annoying lights after I do the work rather than take it in to the shop! Sweeeeet and thanks
