Does anyone know about an Avinti Turbo made for the E24's? The car is described as a Euro model, so I assume the engine modifications were done in Europe. Car came into states around 1983. Sellers states the mileage is 67k. I cannot wait to go pick it up!

odd that he didnt post pics of the engine bay in that listing...
also.. that is not a Euro spec car.. its a US spec
here's the basic VIN decode for that car..
Chassis number 5535279
Vehicle code 5244
Series E24
Model 633CSi
Body type coupe
Catalog model USA
Production date 1978 / 10
Engine M30
Transmission Automatic
Steering Left
Catalyzer NONE
sorry.. but alot isnt adding up..
Why would an automatic be turbo'd?
Did you see pics of the engine/turbo setup on it?
something VERY fishy here...
and lastly.. I've never heard of an Avinti turbo system... except if you put a turbo on an old Studebaker...

what he said. check this thing out before you pay for it!!!
2003 M5
2007 X3 6MT
The eBay listing didn't say, exactly, that this was a Euro. It only said it was an import, which is technically true. Is this a case of misleading statements, an uninformed buyer and/or unwarranted assumptions?
I'm not familiar with Avinti. The 1960s Studebaker Avanti was offered with a single or double Paxton supercharger (not a turbocharger) on some models.
who's placing bets that this is an Avinti Turbo System?
Yes, I have to say go check it out before you pay anything. This has been listed a few times and the ad and the owner's knowledge seemed sketchy, to be kind.
Some people are just naturally incompetent at making for sale ads, but this looks fishy. "free shipping" and "we prefer bank transfers" screams of fraud. At least they are willing to let you pick it up. Charging paypal fees violates ebay policy, and WTH is the extra $100 fee? Selling a turbo (or any modified car, heck ANY CAR) without any engine pictures is just epicly moronic. Let's hope buying one doesn't turn out to be the same
It just SCREAMS fishy at me..
the $500 payment within 24hrs of auction close
$100+ paypal fees if paid by PayPal (to encourage the direct Bank Transfer)
but save $300 if you pick it up???
So if he picks it up, that means he's only going to pay $1800 for it???
I dunno.. its all odd to me.
But on the good side, at least it looks like he's getting what he's paying for.. if the car exists and he gets it.
I dont think $1800 is too high for what the car really is. I like the Red Interior... just not wild about that old ass automatic in it.
also...
check out the six sellers feedback.. check out the "Suburban" he sold and the buyer's feedback.. such a new buyer and then he's linked of buying some crap from some foreclosure BS..
THIS also screams to me some kinda scam going on.. like a fake feedback left for that sale..
and why is the seller from "Hong Kong"?

Funny how a Google search for "Avinti turbo" turns up absolutely nothing at all.
The seller relisted the car, then the auction ended again. There's a "picture" (if you can call it that) of some chintzy piping and an aftermarket blowoff valve, but nothing that I could recognize as belonging to an M30.
I call BS too.

it all may be real.. just a cluster F#%^ of a listing with questionable feedbacks going on...
I did notice the Suburban he "sold" is in the background of one of the pics of the Six.
back in '04 when I first came on here.. I dealt with a scammer here over some tail lights for my E36..
I kept a close eye on him... he was screwing others on here over and it was a struggle to get him to ship me the POS tails..
anyway... come to find out, the seller was caught "shill" bidding against his stuff on ebay.. IE he had another account to bid against a real bidder to RAISE the price of his item.. think it was an engine at the time.. I kept digging and got into a web page index of his and found all kinds of pics.. even a HUGE folder of porn! LOL...
I exposed him pretty bad and pretty much had his location nailed down for those trying to find him.. he was trying to cover his tracks and I just kept exposing him left and right..
with help, I've also exposed vendor scammers on here by digging into their website and doing "Whois" on the registry for their site..
Crooks are dumb for the most part.
Needless to say, I HATE SCAMMERS!

The OP is in Austin and the car is in San Antonio. Not far to drive to inspect / test drive and hopefully he did since he "just bought the car" as in, done deal cuz I would love to be wrong for his sake but I sure smell a
even the OP seems kinda odd to me..
if the OP is a real person, I sure hope like hell he didnt give the seller the required $500 in 24 hours.. because its been several days since that auction closed.
And I'm sure the seller wont willingly give up that $500 if he decides not to close the purchase..
besides all that.. look at that freaking house and yard.. its TRASHED!
Did I say I HATE SCAMMERS???
This sounds bad all over man.
A for more ebay items listed:

Different seller name but same location and contact #
http://cgi.cafr.ebay.ca/ebaymotors/J...-/110517834848
A lot of cars listed so I guess a phone call should be made to see exactly what is going on.
Never saw a pic of the "blowoff" valve but I did see a few pics of the intake side of the block. No images showing anything other than the standard power.
That does not look like a m30 valve cover or an e24 engine bay but I could be wrong.
I talked with the seller over the phone Tuesday and Wednesday night. He seems like a straight forward guy.
When I spoke with him on Tuesday, the car was in South Padre (not in San Antonio) so he canceled the transaction AND immediately refunded my PayPal deposit.
I called him Wednesday and we agreed to the deal taking place in San Antonio. Now, I am planning to pick up the car Tuesday April 20th.
The owners father was a military man and purchased the car from another GI; he supposedly owned the car from 1983 to 2006. The seller and I both assumed the car was a Euro model because of the Turbo. Clearly, that does not seem to be the case.
I currently drive a 2002 E39 M5 which has only 22k miles - I am planning to make this 633 my daily driver on rainy days, or days when I have to park downtown.
Here are some pics of my E39 on the first day I purchased it back in 2008. It had 14,000 original miles / love the paper plates.
I found an issue of Motor Trend September 1982 that features a 633 Turbo but have not received the issue in the mail. ebay auction is 160398215744
Could the E24 be a USA Callaway turbo? What type of turbo did those cars utilize? There is a picture of the Callaway unit in a 735i which does not appear to be the same - but the car is a 1985 model. http://www.carpictures.com/vehicle/06K6J354025950.html
See the Italicized print below taken from Wikipedia.
In 1973, Reeves Callaway, not in a financial position to be able to start his dream of embarking on a racing career, did what many aspiring [1] drivers do- Callaway went to work as a driving instructor for [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Bondurant"]Bob Bondurant[/ame]'s [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Bondurant_School_of_High_Performance_Driving"]racing school[/ame].[1]
While using the newly launched [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_E21"]BMW 320i[/ame] as a school car, he became familiar with its intricacies and deficiencies, he later took hold of one of its cars to his garage in Old Lyme with the intention of tuning for more power.[1]
As a result, Callaway constructed and installed his first prototype turbocharger system and offer [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_and_Driver"]Car and Driver[/ame] journalist Don Sherman to drive the car resulting in a one-page article, giving the modified car great acclaim.[1] Realising its commercial potential, Sherman told Callaway that he could make turbocharger kits available to the BMW community but he didn't even have the equipment to manufacture the components including a [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drill_press"]drill press[/ame].[1] As business began to arrive, Callaway formed Callaway Cars, Inc in 1977.[1]
Over the years, Callaway developed turbocharger kits for [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW"]BMW[/ame], [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen"]Volkswagen[/ame], [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche"]Porsche[/ame], [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi"]Audi[/ame] and Mercedes-Benz. He also developed the HH [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Championship_Car_Racing"]IndyCar[/ame] [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V8_engine"]V8 engine[/ame] and later a [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_turbo"]twin turbo[/ame] kit for the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_GTV6"]Alfa Romeo GTV6[/ame]. The company would become famous in 1987 when they developed a twin turbo kits for the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvette"]Corvette[/ame]. As they were dealer options, Callaway sold 500 of them over a period of five years.[2]
THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL THE COMMENTS! I am truly amazed at how much activity this thread has generated.

That ad was fishy, he looks like a junk yard dealer. Not altogether bad but picturs sell and also tell, sometimes more pics tell more bad so lots of people post few on bad cars. For a good deal on a 110k mile '85 635 watch out for mine. As soon as i fix my tire wear issue I would deliver it from Corpus Christi to anywhere in USA.
Callaway? Same company that customizes corvettes?
yes, if you read through the italicized portion of my last post, you will read that Callaway founder Reeves Callaway started with BMW's in the late 70's / early 80's
He tweaked Alfas too!

Be cautious.. VERY cautious when dealing with them or him/her...
alot of activity? yea.. of course there's alot of activity going on here.. that seller dont seem to be straight.
Best of luck towards your purchase.. but I think you mighta dove in a bit early... just sayin'
I'm sorry.... but is it just me? or does it seem the sale here is going too smoothly?
I may make an ass of myself here, but it just seems the OP and the seller are too much in line...
this entire thread has been itching me in all the wrong places on both sides

Hey Seeker in Kansas.....what does OP mean....LOL? I really don't know....something Purchaser....Official Purchaser - I figure "PO" would be Prior Owner, but OP is tough to decode.
I am concerned about the condition of the car, but I think the seller is legit. He described items on the car that clearly hurt the value...ie he seemed concern about being honest and worried about his ebay feedback. He mentioned on the phone that he had an agreement with a shipper for 5 cars at $300 each AND was also having problems with his neighborhood association/code enforcement - that was the reason for selling his cars. His pictures are terrible and don't seem to be current, but not all people are technically savy.
I am in Austin TX, websites include www.thewhitfieldco.com and www.linksntime.com and linksntime is my user name on ebay. notice my pictures posted above include the M5 paper plates issued to Whitfield ie Marcus Whitfield. You can also find my user name on the M5 Board, NSX Prime, the Ferrari Forum, Adventure Rider, KTM Talk, and Vintage Rolex Forum. I am clearly not the same person as the seller. My pictures posted above are sharp and crisp, and the background in Austin could not be more different than the SA pics. The seller is Rick/Ochua Dyer. It might be a scam, but for the most part, everything is going well.
AGAIN THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP! Still wish I knew something about an Avinti turbo!
