New LOWER prices on select AST 4100 models!

We've got some exciting news from AST-USA to pass along... Effective April 1st, 2010, AST has lowered the retail price on certain 4100 models, including the following:

Left: AST 4100 struts for BMW E90 and E46 chassis. Right: AST 4100 kit for E36 with springs and optional camber plates and shock mounts

Let that soak in for a minute... you can now buy real deal AST monotube adjustable coilovers for the same prices as many twin tube coilover kits. No more dreaming of "some day" owning good shocks, no more settling for cheap shocks, you can get it done now. Also, as of Jan. 2010, all AST 4100 shock kits are sold with springs (and ride height adjusters, if applicable), so this newer price includes springs.

The included spring package includes the parts above for BMW E46 and E36 when purchased from Vorshlag - optional spring rates can be had for a small fee

How was this price drop possible, and why only on these models? For one, by including springs with the shocks (which 95% of all AST customers purchased, back when they were optional), cost savings could be had by buying springs in bulk. Also, these first five AST 4100 models were the highest volume sellers in the North American market, and LARGE quantities have been committed by AST-USA and its dealers (of which Vorshlag is one). The spring rates included with all 4100s now are what AST specifies (see our linked product pages for specific rates), but optional Vorshlag specified spring packages can be purchased at heavily discounted prices (our popular GTS or GTR packages, with Hyperco springs). The Vorshlag nylon spring alignment lower platforms and optional Vorshlag/Hyperco spring packages are a Vorshlag exclusive.

AST 4100 shocks and springs for Subaru GD STi

Let's look at an example the savings with the new prices:

    • BMW E36 4100 shocks with springs = old price $2549
    • BMW E36 4100 shocks with springs = new price $1899
    • That's a price drop of $650

Please - go compare these new prices to just about any name brand coilover kit on the market, and its a heck of a deal... again, these new prices are cheaper than some twin tube shocks. Vorshlag camber plates and either spherical or rubber Rear Shock Mounts, as well as RSM reinforcements, are optional and available - but you can reuse the stock front strut mount if you want (but you want adjustable camber - trust me).

I will answer questions in this thread, and add additional AST models as they are included in this new pricing scheme.

    Thanks,

There are even some AST 4200 price drops!

I was waiting to post this until I got confirmation - which we we just received...

Competitive cars need doubles - AST 4200s are on all of my personal BMWs

AST has lowered select AST 4200 kit prices as well:

These prices include springs as well. The AST 4200 double adjustable monotube is my personal favorite shock kit, and what I have on my personal E36 M3 and E46 330. The very first set of 4200 ever made (2007) are still on our E36 M3, which has twice won and twice trophied at the SCCA Solo Nationals. The set on my E46 is helping set NASA track records and scoring wins in solo as well.

Left: AST 4200 kit for BMW E36 with optional plates/RSMs. Right: AST 4200 kit for BMW E46 with optional plates/RSMs.

Again, a quick look at the price drop
    • BMW E36 4200 shocks with springs = old price $3329
    • BMW E36 4200 shocks with springs = new price $2899

AST 4200 kits come with AST rear ride height adjusters, spring alignment platforms, Hyperco springs and you choose the rate. We have three spring rate kit suggestions available on our website.

AST 4200 shocks have both rebound and compression knobs, for independent adjustment of these damping parameters. There's never a tool or removable knob needed to adjust ASTs - knobs are included and permanently attached. No hoses or reservoirs saves mounting hassles, lots of money, and class bumps/points in certain sanctioning bodies. BMW E36 and E46 rear 4200 shocks include threaded aluminum bodies and can be converted to true coilovers, with optional components (see above, left).

    Thanks!

Terry, its Jerry (Johns' brother, bought the Alpha car). I'm a new E46 M3 owner now.. the bug has bitten. Know anyone in our area that can give me a ride in a street car w/ the 4100 setup and 600/700lb springs in it? My M is a daily that I want to use for HPDE's, trying to figure out if I can live w/ the spring package on a near daily driver and sometimes HPDE car.

I'd love to get them for my E30, but $2660 is just way too much. The price has climbed astronomically for E30s since their introduction....any discounted pricing soon to happen?

These would FLY off the shelves if they were $1899 like the rest of the kits. GC kits are nearly as much, and E30 guys buy them all the time.

I drove the Vorhshlag E30 at two local autocrosses and was hooked!
Suffered for a year or more in damper lust and finally just got my 4100s on the car in time for the DE next weekend.

There's a couple of guys that autocross E46 M3's locall with ASTs....

Stuart from AST-USA has 5300s on his

KenO has 4200s on his, and he tracks it a LOT, too

The E46M3 is a kick ass street/track car. KenO drives his car to the track, changes tires and pads, and has set new TT track records at every NASA event he has attended. The 18x10" D-Force is a GREAT fit on the M3, and both cars above are running them with 285/30/18 tires. Lots of stick!

We're working on AST-USA to make this one of the next candidates for "massive roll-out in quantities". And Jack Money @ Elephant is hammering them loudly as well!

We have the capability to properly shorten E30 strut housings here at Vorshlag, as well. I'm accumulating 4-lug strut housings now to make a batch of shortened, coilover converted, glass bead blasted and electroplated plated, AST-4100-equipped E30 struts this month.

I had been debating which route to go with my E36 (trying to keep it a budget build), I think this helped sway me. I <3 the 4100s on my GR STi, looking forward to putting these on the E36.

Read carefully, AST 4100s come with springs now at this new price. The rates are listed at the top of the page. We are offering racers the option to upgrade to GTS front springs or the full GTR spring package at heavily discounted prices. Terry has revised his first post to show this.

I understand that the springs come with the kit, but can you swap out the rear 700s for 550s free of charge?

Just checked the website. Was going to call in to see if I could order some new springs, but then saw that you guys were closed today :/

Since we're already on the topic. Is it possible to order 4" springs for the rear? I have switched over from street tires to R comps, and would like to try to a new set up by increasing the spring rates all around (575 and 675 right now). I tried searching to see what kind of rates you're running on your LS1 car, but couldn't find any info on it?
