Well I have a pulley bearing that is screaming for help. I believe it to be the one next to the alternator. I am crazy busy at work right now so i took the car to my dad and borrowed a car so he could take a look at it and to not do any more damage to my car (the last thing I want ids for it to seize and screw everything up)
I have limited car knowledge (just what I learned growing up around my dad) He is a mechanic but rarely works on foreign cars (Hardcore GM man all the way) and he's been outta the biz for a while.
we plan on tackling the project in about a week or so. I found an awesome DIY on how to replace the belts.

next questions... How do I know whether my car is a mechanical tensioner or a hydraulic one? any suggestions on where to order parts? any suggestions on what all to replace while everything is apart? (obviously the belts) any suggestions, comments, helpful tips would be great!
THANKS!
Alex
You've most likely got bad bearings in the tensioner; go to www.realoem.com and type in the last seven digits of your VIN and search through the categories to find the tensioner.
Once you find it, go to www.pelicanparts.com and paste in the copied part # from realoem and voila, up comes your part.
Good Luck and let us know if you need something else.
Your production date (found on the inside door jam, drivers side) must be late 2004....Last production date (according to Realoem), was 12/2004.
Below should give you an idea of what's going on....
Pc 15 Deflection Pulley P/N 11287841228 $25.50
http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...&I1.x=7&I1.y=8
Pc 6 Hydraulic Tensioner Pulley P/N 11281748131 $17.25
http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...I1.x=12&I1.y=7
Pc 21 Complete Hydraulic Assembly P/N 11287838797 $66.50
http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...I1.x=11&I1.y=9
Might just wanna change out the belts also...

@Starksie
FYI: You or your dad may be inclined to only replace that one tensioner pulley that's making the noise...
I would highly recommend that you replace BOTH the idler(deflection) pulley AND tensioner pulley at the same time. You Don't want to have pulleys in different conditions of wear on BMWs.
Also, if your dad is a mechanic, when it comes to doing the pulleys, there really is no difference between the cars he's normally worked on and the BMW. Same principals. Loosen belt, remove belt, put on new belt, release tensioner, done.
