I saw a post a few weeks ago where a guy was saying how good his 1 inch rust hole sounded in his car's muffler. I was thinking about drilling a hole in mine. I know this is probably not the preferred tuning method but I'm broke and want my car to sound cool.
Where is the rust hole?
How big?
Any backfiring or downfalls?
Does it sound too loud or just right?
Thanks
your gonna get a bunch of shit for this...
Sell bmw.
Buy Honda.
Success!
Drill the hole EXACTLY where you want the rust to start. If you forget where you drilled just look under the car. The hole gets bigger by the day.
Just save up and get a performance muffler, and if you still have enough get a good quality mid pipe. Maybe even headers later on.
you need to start further up the exhaust, try drilling a 1inch hole straight into the head on the exhaust port.
This is not considered a "tuning method" just to be clear
This will make your car sound broken, not cool. Buy a performance muffler.
No backfiring, but your muffler will rust out. Don't do it. If you want your car to sound better try the Golf Tee Mod and debaffling your air box. Drill holes can't be undone.

buy a honda and get a coffee can for your exhaust
I knew it was gonna be a shit storm!
lol @ this thread.
If you drill a hole in your muffler your car is going to sound like it has an exhaust leak. Most people can tell the difference between a performance muffler and an exhaust leak

Toss live grenade into muffler
here the dealer makes a hole at the lowest part of the muffler(the one with the exhaust tip) to allow water formed by condensation in the exhaust to drip and not to stay inside the muffler rusting everything from the inside out, this is because here in Peru we have 95% humidity(lots of condensation) and we use the cars mostly for short distances, which doesn't allow the exhaust to get hot enough to evaporate all the moisture... well the thing is, this makes a lot of peruvian BMWs sound like trash and it's worst for the I4 cars because the sound is very metallic and raspy , I really hate it and I'm thinking of closing that hole, but the thing is that it actually works because the muffler looks like 10k miles old...
so, in a word; NO.. it doesn't sound cool

OP - I know how to make it sound like you have a turbo!! lol. Drill one 3/16" hole on the inlet pipe of the muffler. If that is not enough, go bigger, or another hole next to it. Have fun goofing up your exhaust!

He already has a hole in his exhaust! that where the shit comes out! Just needs another hole in his head!
honestly... this is a serious question? are you 16 and trying to show off to the kids with mustangs at school?
Look.... If you don't have enough money to do it right with the correct performance parts then your not gonna have enough to replace a stock exhuast sytem that has rusted out. Leave it until you can, or like the others said, golf tee mod. I think you would be safe to leave it. Then buy a whole exhuast system.
The OP has a 325 that exhaust did not have the flapper in the muffler like the 328 has.
I recall discussions like this when I was in HS where the kids with the beat hondas would do thing to make it sound "cool." Sorry Dude will never sound good. If you want cheap look into go to a exhaust shop and have them remove the muffler and weld in a strait pipe in. If you do not like the out come it can always be changed back to stock.
Save your money until you can actually afford an upgraded muffler system. dont be a rah-tard
I kinda understand OP. I have a rusted muffler on my 318 and I kinda like the sound of it. I have a brand new one sitting here at home but I keep delaying the repair. I should make a video of it before I change it, as soon as I get my alternator belt...
