BMW Roundel Origin

Maybe people know this already, but I was watching a DVD about BMW history, and how they got started making airplane engines in WWI...Which explains the roundel design:

BMW Logo

The BMW logo represents strength, durability and elegance of the product manufactured by company that produced aircrafts during World War 1.
Being a Bavarian company, in their logo design BMW choose to use the color of blue, which not only represents sky but is also the traditional color of Bavaria. Stylish use of the white color represents the blades of the aircraft engine. Both colors used alternately showing the airplane propeller spinning through the sky.

In this documentary, they said the airplane engines they build were 185HP inline sixes...Not too much different in size and HP from our E46 engines..I think they were watercooled as well...And they were built to be lightweight from the start, what with being used for battle ready aircraft...

Run Flats

Because there is no spare tire.....

But the nice thing about our cars is that our spare is on a Alloy wheel, not steel

So when you do get a flat, your wheels still match, and no one can notice!

You must not drive an E46 convertible, an E60, or an X3.

Ive drove my mom's X3......

and I drove my dad's E90. His are Run-Flats from factory. But their too expensive to be replacing when its time to change tires. So he is screwed when he goes to normal tires

at least BMW doesnt advertise this point. Can you imagine the commercials ending like this..BMW, born from planes. I think Saab totally ruins their image by advertising they were born from jets. I guess they sucked at making jets so they started making cars, and they suck too

Actually, the slang term we used in Austria for BMW is "Bayrischer Mistwagen" :-) It's also noteworthy that BMW's, MB's and Audi's are very common in Austria/Germany; instead of seeing Ford Crown Vic's for taxi cars, you'll see BMW, Audi and MB... while it seems that in North America those are luxury cars that not everyone can afford, certainly for .at/.de, that is not the case...

Roundel NOT propellers

OK, so I watched the Ultimate Factories where they build the Z4. Apparently, the roundel is NOT propellers like we've been lead to believe. It's supposed to just be inspired by the Bavarian flag/symbol, which is a blue and white checker.

to be more accurate it is the Bavarian colors arranged to be a chess board. As time went on More people just associated it with a plane propeller because they made planes.
