    335i, Powergranny

    Hi.
I've been doing some searches at your rich-in-data forum for quite a while now. I've decided it's time to show you what I drive, or what I will be driving in a couple of days rather. Hope you'll like it

That's the condition I bought the car in a couple of years back.
It was in a good shape, seemed so anyway. It used to have an M20B20 engine back then and some fast and furious wheels from fox racing which i detested from the very first day of ownership. They had to go and they had to go fast as I was getting furious. Apart from the wheels everything else was absolutely stock and that's why I bought it in the first place.

There's a 30 images limit per post so I had to do this...

The bottlecaps era has begun a few weeks later:

I wasn't too happy with an M20B20 performance. Well, frankly, who would be? Therefore I took another step, this time to a very different level of power, starring a mighty M30B35 from a '93 535i:

    305mm x 28mm discs and brembo calippers:

Stock disc breaks appeared on the rear axle along with thicker anti-roll bars front and back and stainless steal brake lines through out the lenght of a car.

The car also got an inlet manifold redone as in Alpina B6 3,5 and it looks a bit like this now bar the alpina decals. The idea was not to bring the air over the rocker cover for obvious reasons:

Will take good real photos very soon of course, this time from my own car

There's also a slightly lower suspension at the front with ACS springs (-60 mm) and Sachs shocks. At the back there's Sachs + H&R (-40mm). The shocks are stock and should do just fine. If not, I shall swap them for an e30 dedicated Weitec sport suspension kit.

As I said before, where I live the winter tyres are simply obvious, so I got a set of Goodyears and a set of ''16 steel rims from... Opel Astra H, which I had to customize a bit to fit the 57,1 centre hubs of an e30:

As you all know, the waiting game can be a cold, stuck-up bitch so I started collecting the goodies:
    flip rear windows:

    boot tool set:

    alpina valve caps, thanks Dad:

Also got a few things covered in leather, but that i've had it done a few months back:

The sportsitzes are waiting for an upholstery. I'm thinking about matching the blue standard interior or going black cloth with dark blue patterns. We'll see. There will definately be no leather interior.

Now, the car is 99% ready so it's only gonna be a couple of days before I share some news with you. Hold on tight. It's worth waiting I guess.
    All the best
    Karim

I sure will. Some work still left to do, mainly cosmetics but it should all be finished by the end of January.

Very nice project, and breakdown of the stages. I know personally that the e30 has a horrible tendancy to rust. Read in a magazine somewhere that many rust under the fenders and trunk through BMWs practice of drilling in mudflaps and leaving the metal exposed to the elements.

I like the alpinas and the aftermarket leather accessories and alpina valve caps from your dad.

The drilling and exposing is one thing, but I'm pretty sure you in sunny California have no salt on the roads in the winter time and that's really a main reason of the extended rust on my e30. It wasn't that bad, I didn't get the pics of the floor which was actually very decent. Also, this was the first time this car has ever been stripped and it was 26 years after it was put together. The subframes or whatever they're called in english were sound too.
The most important part is that the rust is gone. For now at least.

Aah, forgot to mention an S3.25 LSD, a bmw z3 steering rack and a short-shifter. There's probably much more to mention as the works have begun quite a while ago... Can't wait to drive it guys...

You know, with the M30B35 it's CRUCIAL that you get the Miller MAF upgrade to get rid of the nasty AFM on there.

A friend of mine (CleverTD) with a E34 535i 5-speed put the Miller MAF in along with a 3.91LSD and recorded 201hp/211tq to the rear wheels. chirps second and sometimes 3rd even though the car's around 3600lbs.

Awesome project btw. That's definitely an E30 I'd kill a man to drive...

Yep, that's the next step and while Miller seems to be the first choice on your side of the pond, there's a guy, an electronics engineer very close to my hometown who has actually built an M30 dedicated MAF...himself. Will see what the story with it is very soon. No high hopes though.

Sorry for a mess with multiple posts, should be ok now. Cheers.

    Control:

It's fast enough. The suspension needs improvement. No biggie though.
