I suppose this is the sensor that detects whether there is someone sitting on your passenger seat or not. This way your car knows if it's neccessary to activate the airbag in case of an accident.

    Thanks,
The part numbers are right there in your original post, look at the realoem link you posted. Item #3, sensor mat.

    # 3 looks like the heating element. I may be wrong though. Incidentally i have the same light on and need to replace the same thing. Im wondering about this also.

Yes, you miss the part number, because is the number 4, not the number 3 like you say... but thanks anyway.....

    How does that get replaced?

Gotta remove the leather off the bottom seat cushion. There's a write up on how to do this on www.e38.org (e38 & e39 use the same front seats & parts)...to skip over all the links...do a page search [Ctrl+F] and type "occupancy"...and this should skip you right to the DIY write-up.

Hmmm... really! I am getting more confounded!

You said the following ..."can tell me what are the passenger seat airbag sensor....program told me that my problem it's the passenger seat airbag sensor...."

According to realoem item #3 is "SENSOR MAT F CO-DRIVER'S SEAT IDENTIF" and item #4 is "Control electronics, seat occupancy"

I asked if I was missing something because you correctly showed the relevant parts and numbers from realoem and in essence had supplied the answer to your own question.

If you dissagree with what is in the diagram you will have to take it up with realoem or BMW.

It is a common occurrence for the seat sensor mat to develop a break thereby no longer maintaining continuity. When the SRS system runs its diagnostics it shows the sensor as faulty. If you think the problem is item #4 that's cool with me

No the problem is almost allways number 3 the sensor mat. It gets micro cracks in the pressure contacting areas that cause the fault. It is a very common problem that and seat belt buckles.

    Wolfen,
It is not a heating element, the diagram the OP posted is the "Electric Parts for Airbag". Heating element for seats is under SEATS - Electric Parts for Seat Heating.

Item #3 is a sensor that detects whether someone is sitting in the passenger seat. If no one is detected to be sitting in passenger seat, then the passenger side air bag will not deploy.

Mat can be replaced. Regarding SRS light, I cleared my airbag light using Carsoft. The airbag light can not be cleared by disconnecting the battery.

Thanks bro. This repair looks to be one of those tedious, taking a real long time kinda thing. Not looking forward to it. I hate having to remove seat upholstery. I've been living with the passenger occupancy sensor being faulty and the airbag light on. I've gotten so used to it now, i don't even notice.

    BTW:

Great German Sheppard in your avatar. I love that color combination. I Grew up with those dogs back in Poland.

    Wolfen,
Yes, those sensor mats look like a real PITA to replace, more time consuming than anything else. I lucked out with my old 525i, in that I must have tweaked the sensor mat when I rested my elbow on it while checking out fuses in the glove box. I reset with Carsoft and light never came back, so what ever I knocked out of place with my elbow seemed to have straightened itself out.

Yea, I have always been a fan of the Shep, unfortunately it's not my dog, but I sure wish it was! I may get a chance to go to Poland in the next few months, I am looking forward to it.

LOL, i tried pressing on the seat in different way before too trying to reset it. No such luck on my end.

One time i reupholstered the seats in my last car. It took me a while but it looked as good as factory. But after the sore finger tips, cursing and stretching, heating and working the leather i kinda figured that was the first and last time i ever undertake upholstering willingly. Not hard just a super duper PITA.

BTW: If you go to Poland. Enjoy. You may see some of the most beautiful genetic specimens of women anywhere. lol. You could take a public bus and see women there that are magazine quality over here. Enjoy and keep Poland a Secret.

Thanks bro, but I'm still thinking is the sensor (part #4), not the mat, look here
    http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...FILTER_BMWM=ON

Pelican refereed this part to a "Control Unit for SRS System Passenger Seat Sensor"

it's a very cheap part, so I'm going to replace first this part, if the airbag red light still on, then I'm going to replace the mat....

    really thanks,

Was it the sensor or the mat? I just got an 02 530i/5 and the light comes on when someone is sitting in the passenger seat, but it is off if nobody is in the seat.
