any alarm that doesn't make a sound after you unlock / lock it.

For the 6-speed manual Royal Purple Synchromax is a good choice. Two quarts at about $10 each.

viper alarm system yo. i had one on a car of mine awhile ago, 500$ and its a good system and very programmable. 2-way remote with an LCD showing the status of your car, remote start... all kinds of stuff. Local car audio shop installed it for me. If you dont want the BMW alarm then the viper is a good alternative.

I really think the stock alarm is a pretty good setup. Noone can steal your car without the key(or a tow truck), buy some tint and call it a day. E39s just arent a big theft target unless you are a retard and leave expensive stuff in the passenger compartment for all to see.

Whoa! He said economical!

Just keep the stock alarm. If it went bad buy one from anyone who's parting out an E39... Oh no, that wouldn't work, right? It is programmed to the original car/keys I guess... has anybody tried to do that?

A hungry pitbull.
You can leave the car in Bronx overnight.

What's wrong with your factory alarm? It really is the best choice, so if it's malfunctioning, maybe we can help you get it up and running again.
