1999 - 2005 (E46) (1999 - 2005) Starting in 1999 the E46 3 Series picked up where the E36 left off. Larger, with smoother lines, and with more advanced engines than its predecessor, the E46 easily held the title of "Best Car of the Year" throughout its life.

Red face Intake for 330i bringing up service engine soon light

Ive got a '01 330i and put a high flow air filter on the intake in replacement of the stock box. The service engine soon light has been coming on intermittently for the past couple months. Any suggestions as to the cause and possible fixes to the problem?
Thanks for the help,
Will

put the factory intake back on.

Get the codes read. I have a feeling you are using an oiled type filter and the oil is causing the DME to misread the MAF. When this happens the DME turns the CEL on. K&N or alike are known to destroy MAF in cars. they even have a disclamer on their website.

I agree about putting the stock box back on to see what happens code-wise, but I fully disagree about the K&N filters. The "disclaimer" on their site says dealer/service techs are full of shit, service people say this because it's a lifetime filter so they can't swap a new filter in at every turn and charge you $69.95 for the privilege. They present some pretty compelling facts that I'm inclined to believe:

Ive noticed more torque in the low end since i put the new filter on and it seems to be running as good if not better then it had.
