Is one of the most common issues with E39s. That, the foam that goes above the firewall which crumbles to pieces, the seal around the windshield and the door sills. I bought my front doors weather strips from the dealer a year ago and one of them is already showing small cracks.

Are you talking about the seal on the door? Tischer has them at around $40-50. I plan to do mine in a month.

These rubber seals (all rubber materials for that matter) over a long period of time become brittle and tend to crack & disintegrate. I noticed if you use some silicone grease lube (come in a spray can) on them they become soft & supple and last much longer and tend not to stick in harshly cold weather, try it and you won't regret.

i have the same issue. The whole seal for the windshield needs to be replaced. I got quoted 100 bucks w/labor included. They said they can replace without removing the windshield. and i also got a torn seal on the driver side door, the longest vertical seal on door opening. the seal for under the hood fell off geez. is it hard to replace the windshield seal?

No it is not. Browse through the DIY and I believe there is a guide in there. No need to remove the windshield.
