Squeaky, chirping noise from inside engine. Alternator?
Hey guys,
I am trying to diagnose a problem I am having with my car right now; hopefully someone can help. When it runs idle, there is a squeaking/chirping/ticking noise that comes from the engine. I found this YouTube video of someone else with the same problem: Does anyone know what this might be and how I can fix it? If you have any ideas, let me know. Thanks! |

If the sound is coming from your alternator, the bearings in the alternator are likely dying. This is common in the e36.
Your best bet is to either have your alternator rebuilt ($30-50 depending) or to replace it with another unit from an auto recycler.
