What to Do with Dead M52tu engine? Sell or part out?

Not a FS thread but if its in the wrong place, Mods feel free to flex your muscles.

As the title says, I have a dead engine out of a 2000 528i. I have no use for it so I was wondering if it would be more benefitial to part it out or sell it as a whole. The previous owner said it overheated and only had compression in a few cylinders. The trans is intact but I never drove this car.

I dont suppose there is any market for dead M52tu engines. Are there any little parts off these engines that people periodically need?

I guess I could also make a coffee table or wine rack out of the block.

it's too bad it's a TU, the regular M52 cylinder heads are worth a bit more because they can be used on the S52 M3 engines.

You can still sell the head though, possibly even to a rebuilder as a core.

you might get some $ for it from a scrapper. if it were me, I'd take it apart completely just to try to learn something. Not like you'll break anything. disassembly also make it easier to handle and get rid of.

to answer the original question, I doubt it's worth anything...

I like the furniture idea, maybe not for the main living area, but for a table in the game room, hell yea!

There was one on Top Gear that was used as a coffee table. It had a plate glass top, and I think some sort of stand offs for the legs and glass support.

Take it apart and sell for parts, the M52TU head is the same as the M54 Head thats used in the 2001-2003 BMW 530i, and as for the Block, i say Definately a Coffee table with a light bulb in each Cylinder Hole.

How often do the heads go bad when these engine overheat. I was under the impression the heads are often damaged (crack?) in an situation like this.

Hi Jason thanks for interest. Unfortunately I have not fired her up. Started working on the engine harness over the weekend. My OCD cant let me use the old harness so Im building one from scratch that way it'll be plug and play into the BMW system.

pic of the mockup using masons string. ordered my wires 2 weeks ago but some colors are back ordered so i'll have to wait till after the holidays. The block is a junk block I used to fabricate motor mounts.
