1999 - 2005 (E46) (1999 - 2005) Starting in 1999 the E46 3 Series picked up where the E36 left off. Larger, with smoother lines, and with more advanced engines than its predecessor, the E46 easily held the title of "Best Car of the Year" throughout its life.

Which angel eyes, CCFL or LED?

I am in the market for angel eyes and was wondering which would be better. I have used CCFL before and one of the issue I have with CCFL is that after prolong use, the glass turns yellowish brown just like a fluorescent light. Not sure if this happens with all CCFL angel eyes.

I am leaning towards LED as it doesn't use ballast and I don't think the plastic will change colour with LED.

Any thoughts? I am planning getting 2 sets tomorrow or early next week. Thanks.

Depends on the look you want. Most LEDs are much brighter that stock or CCFL. LED is much more reliable, requires no warm up time and has no ballast. They all are pretty much the same, a clip holds the ring onto the housing, electricity flows through and lights up the LEDs. Most come with a wiring harness that makes it pretty easy to install.

If you have the budget, do the LED setup. They are more reliable, brighter and a newer technology. The CCFLs are the more affordable option and not a bad choice but you have to go into it expecting to replace the ballasts and deal with cold start issues.

We have both available as complete kits for your car, let me know if I can help.

I have the CCFL Angel eyes and of the 4, one of them is slow to light and sometimes doesn't light at all until the next time I start the car. Is this a sign of a bad ballast or bad bulb? Does one ballast light both AE's inside on headlight or are there 2 ballasts?

Not sure what the reason could be but one ballast power two of the angel eyes in each headlight.
