| 1991 - 1999 (E36) (1991 - 1999) The first modern 3 Series, the E36, was the model that paved the way for the 3 Series to be named "Car of the Year" every year since the model was driving off showroom floors. Radically redesigned in 1992, the E36 was not the same 3 Series as the E21 and E30. Larger, less boxy in design, and equipped with a dual overhead cam engine, multilink rear suspension, and a more finished interior, the E36 balances sport with luxury. |

Sunroof wire harness (HELP)!!!
Ok so im buying this car from a buddy. One of the previous owners of this car planed on doing a sunroof delete but than changed his mind. Me and my friend the current owner went to put a new sunroof motor
and try to make it work. Well we get the motor all hooked up but cant find the wiring harness for the sunroof switch. Would i infact have to rewire this to the car or does it run straight from the motor to the switch? If it is a seprate piece what would it be called and where can i get it? Help please! You need to get a copy of Bentley, or perhaps the Electronic Troubleshooting Manual (ETM), for your vehicle and review the schematic for the sunroof motor and switch. In my car, the sunroof DC motor is wired to battery power, ground, the switch, and the Body Electronics Control Module.
If the wires are all there and all you're missing is the switch, that is easily found on the For Sale forum or Ebay. And if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can repair any cut wires and get the sunroof working. But f you lack that skill set or if the wires have been ripped out of the body, then seek professional help. I recommend testing things step by step. Use the 4mm wrench from the Tool Kit to move the motor axle and test the motion of the sunroof by hand. If that moves OK, then remove the motor from the cassette and use the new switch to power the motor. Confirm the motor turns and stops both clockwise and counterclockwise. Lastly, you will need to get the DC motor synchronized with the sunroof. Read about it here: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1161982 Good luck -Jerry |

Well I have the switch and my buddy has 2 or 3 motors not to mention an entire sunroof assembly(although its blue) So thats not realy a problem. We were planing to pull the headliner down and see if its just tucked WAY up in there. Mainly my question was is there a separate wire running from the switch to the motor or if the harness for the switch was its own wiring running to the rest of the car
