1999 - 2005 (E46) (1999 - 2005) Starting in 1999 the E46 3 Series picked up where the E36 left off. Larger, with smoother lines, and with more advanced engines than its predecessor, the E46 easily held the title of "Best Car of the Year" throughout its life.

Group Buy! New CCFL-LED style tail lights (Not actually CCFL, just their style!)

Hi folks - sorry this is a double-post, I've also mentioned this in the lighting forum! But I wanted to make sure anyone looking exclusively at the e46 threads caught wind of this.

As I've mentioned in a few prior posts, I've been on the lookout for these new tail lights which I randomly stumbled across a few weeks back while doing a google image search - but couldn't find any vendors selling.

Christian at European Performance Products has been able to get details on these and offer them for sale - and at a group buy discount! This sale is available for the next few weeks here.

If you're interested is purchasing, please drop me a PM and let me know if you'll be picking up a set! These are coming directly from Germany so you can expect abit longer than average shipping times:
Least expensive method of shipping (Surface) – 3 to 6 weeks
Next level up (Airmail) – 2 to 3 weeks
Highest cost (UPS) – 6 to 7 business days (brokerage charges apply)

Right now these are only available for Sedans, but I'm told that these may be available shortly for Coupes.

WTF? Why CCFL? ZOMG. Why not a fiberoptic ring with 2 LEDs... CCFL makes no sense in this situation...

I think fiberoptic rings in the tail lights are abit altezza-ish for my tastes. In any case the bottom LED strips are CCFL styled like those available for the 5 series. It may not be for everyone, but a few folks here definitely expressed interest!

ohh. Ok nevermind. CCFL style... Yea those are the fiber optic pieces I am refering to... I thought you were saying they were CCFL gas tubes. I would be interested in these for coupe.

These are fiber optic tubes with LEDs at each end...

Would I need to change out my LCM to put these lights in? Also how much are they going for? I might get two sets if there not too pricey.

Check the link for prices - you can email them, ask for Christian tell him David sent ya... maybe they can do a little better on the price!

As far as the LCM, I think these are direct connects for non-LCD tail lights... so shouldn't require anything. But double-check with them anyway to make sure!

Same question, they look great, but were they modified (like umnitza/ddm/jlevi does) so that the LCM does not show a BULB OUT light..;.????

No, there won't be any issues as they include the resistors. Pretty much any LED taillights available on the market now will have these pre-wired.

Now also online for the Touring guys (special pricing for the next couple of weeks):

after all the problems with my CCFL angel eyes (predator chromiums which were top of the line at the time) i'd be weary of putting anything else CCFL on my car. i'd wait for an LED/fiber optic version if I were you guys

dirsh: I clarified in my topic, these are flat LED strips - not CCFL. I said CCFL just to detail their styling.

I have started using EL Wire in a few of my personal projects (making for sale signs for homes and cars .. customizing my motorcycle) and I think they would be perfect for use in taillights like this. They can be bent EASILY and will not break. completely even light distribution, etc.

Anyway .. I am in on this, but do have one question.

In our cars there is no 12V switched when the car is turned on going to the tail light (Is there??). So how will the LED strips in the tail light be powered on all the time (like the newer 3 and 5 series?) when the car is running but no running or headlights turned? Or is the LED strip the actually brake light now?

Pending this clarification I would be in on a group buy... is this still going?! Where do I go to sign up? Thanks
