1991 - 1999 (E36) (1991 - 1999) The first modern 3 Series, the E36, was the model that paved the way for the 3 Series to be named "Car of the Year" every year since the model was driving off showroom floors. Radically redesigned in 1992, the E36 was not the same 3 Series as the E21 and E30. Larger, less boxy in design, and equipped with a dual overhead cam engine, multilink rear suspension, and a more finished interior, the E36 balances sport with luxury.

hmm should I buy this E36?

I just found this posted, it's about an hour from me. I talked to the guy and it's an auto unfortunately, but for $1000 I might just pick it up for the hell of it. http://cedarrapids.craigslist.org/cto/1474609065.html

Hmm looks a bit too good to be true. I'd get more info on it though.

I just got a 93 E36 325i local for $1,100, 260k miles, and a little rear end damage

It needed a wheel bearing (Rear), tires, shocks, brakes, injectors, plugs, shifter bushings, Radio, and alot of interior work.

Then the clutch went! Oh well $550 for a normal flywheel and clutch kit. "unsprung " and $200 and a lift ticket for a friend to install it.

I still have to raise the rear bumper mount to get the bumper level and the crash sensor seems to be insane and causing me to go insane.

After alot of work I love her! Gonna get some projector headlights, lower the front an inch n a half, and get a snowboard rack.

Life will be good!

I checked it out needless to say it needs a lot of work. I don't know if I'd even want to drive it home.

You should try and look at a car that is a little bit more expensive than a G.

Personally if that car was closer to me, i'd buy it and make one good car out of my beater e36, or part it out.

Well I'm not in the market for an E36 right now I just came across the ad and figured I'd get it if it was in decent condition.
