I just did my 1998 BMW 528i COMPLETE FRONT SUSPENSION OVERHAUL:

If you only change the bearings, then all you have to do is:
- Focus on Step #10 to undo the pinch bolt so the Steering Knuckle can be dropped a bit.
- Do not remove the strut completely. All you need is dropping the knuckle down enough to expose the 4 bolts holding the bearing.
Also the reason you want the strut in place is to stabilize the steering knuckle so you can remove the 18-mm bolts.
- Then remove the 4 bolts (18-mm), then the bearing comes out.
You may need impact wrench or breaker bar to remove these 4 bolts.
- During re-install, use Loctite and torque to 75 ft-lb.

PS: Use only BMW or F.A.G. brand!

^^ yup.

I think BMW oem = fag brand.

official procedure is to buy new bolts, as the new bolts have pre-applied loctite (Dri-Loc or equivalent). Or as described above, you can just put more of the high-temp, high-strength threadlocking compound on the old bolts.

just to emphasize the removal of the bolts -- the old ones will not come out willingly! even after you get them going, your arms WILL get tired taking them out.

Make sure to clean up hub surface before installing new bearing. Mine had a little surface rust - see photo:

Very good advice!!!

Regardless of whatever job you do (Valve Gasket, Wheel Bearing, Water Pump etc.), Cleanliness of the Mounting Surface is a MUST before installing any new components.
