pilot bearing front, back cover plates and felt ring--necessary?
Hi! I really want to put my 325e back together this weekend because it had been sitting for a while, but I just realized that I had forgotten to order the pilot bearing front and back cover plates and the felt ring. I destroyed the felt ring while trying to pull the bearing out. Do I really need these parts? www.pelicanparts.com doesn't even have these parts in their Clutch super kit. Thanks!
anybody? Please... Last edited by cprince; 11-20-2009 at 11:21 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

You'll want the pilot bearing and felt ring, I'm not sure the cover plate is required, but I'd put anything like that on anyway.
I went down to the local auto parts store and got the pilot bearing. They just look up the P/N and pull a bearing which works, they aren't BMW specific or anything. The local store can get almost anything in a half day if I order in the morning, or the next day if it's later in the afternoon or evening. Last edited by genocide98; 11-20-2009 at 11:12 PM.. |

The original pilot bearing was an open bearing with separate felt rings and dust shields.
Most replacements are sealed bearings and the additional oil felts and covers are discarded. |
