E36 head unit question

Has anyone attempted to swap the OBC with the factory stereo to use the lower space for a double DIN DVD player?

Thanks for the reply but I really don't like the "frame" of cheap plastic that is why I was thinking that it would be better to put the unit in the lower space because it looks to be double DIN size anyway and the computer should fit perfectly where the stereo used to reside. Am I wrong? I assume there is a reason M3Steve didn't do it that way.
