ZKWs with DDE Rings...smoke coming from housing

I noticed last night my driver's side tail lights were not working. Some examination today showed no power. Traced it back to a blown fuse. During this time I also noticed the halo/rings on the driver's side were not working either. Replaced the fuse, hit the parking lights and again popped fuse. Replaced 10A fuse with 15A, turned on the lights and noticed driver's side halo not on, but smoke starting to rise from the back of the headlight housing. I suspect the ring(s) to be the issue. Anyone come across this issue?

BTW: I checked my power wire that goes from the parking light to the rings...that's fine.

Mike

I suspect shoddy wiring.

Rarely does up-sizing a fuse without running fresh wiring result in anything more than melted wire. Thus, the smoke.

Congratulations on not burning your car down.

Thanks.

The larger fuse helped narrow down the problem. I've since disconnected the power wire that powers the angel eye (driver's side).

My plan is to take the euro headlight apart tomorrow and see if I can find the problem. Any ideas where I can find the instructions for disassembling the euro headlight with HIDs?

Thanks,
Mike

Try a euro headlight vendor like Umnitza

Sorry but no, it didn't. All it did is allow something to melt.

Fuses are a protection device. You should have realized you were trying to draw too much current when you popped the first two. Opting for the larger fuse burned up hardware that would've otherwise been just fine.

Are you running a PnP harness with these HIDs + DDEs? I'm going to bet not. It sounds to me like you should be.
