1991 - 1999 (E36) (1991 - 1999) The first modern 3 Series, the E36, was the model that paved the way for the 3 Series to be named "Car of the Year" every year since the model was driving off showroom floors. Radically redesigned in 1992, the E36 was not the same 3 Series as the E21 and E30. Larger, less boxy in design, and equipped with a dual overhead cam engine, multilink rear suspension, and a more finished interior, the E36 balances sport with luxury.

front frame straightning

HI, i had rear ended some one in my 328is, long story short, after taking the front end apart and putting on the new hood i realized that it didn't line up right with the front of the car, it seems that the frame that goes from side to side is bent back by about a 1/4 inch. My questing is has anyone with a similar problem attempted to pull the frame forward themselves, and what method did you use, or should i just take it to a shop, got quoted $125.

Ha, I was going to say chain it to the tree and put that mother in reverse, back that thing up.

I would take it in though.

That's not really part of the frame, it's just a support cross member. the frame rails are buried a little bit deeper. It's a pretty easy part to replace, you can pick one up at most junk yards. You have to strip a fair amount of the front clip to replace it, but it's not rocket science. For $125 I would let somebody else get dirty.

A couple of hours at their posted labor rate will do the job, especially if it's only a 1/4 inch back. You'd have to tear down the front end again to replace that part, which would most likely include breaking the cooling and a/c systems open, evacuate R134, recharge, bleed cooling system, etc. In addition, if the mount points on the upper fender unibody rails are still bent, an undamaged crossmember will not bolt in correctly. You're way better off letting them do it. They also have access to measuring equipment and the frame specs to be certain that it's pulled back exactly in the proper position. By the way, the ultra high tech sophistocated method they're going to use to pull it forward isn't much different than chaining a come-along to a tree and giving it a tug, they just use a $50,000 frame pulling machine instead of an oak tree...

From your pic the radiator support looks bent too ... passenger side right by the front corner of the radiator.

oh thats not part of the frame, thats just the radiator support. They're fairly cheap now if you know where to look for one. Not terribly hard to swap
