1991 - 1999 (E36) (1991 - 1999) The first modern 3 Series, the E36, was the model that paved the way for the 3 Series to be named "Car of the Year" every year since the model was driving off showroom floors. Radically redesigned in 1992, the E36 was not the same 3 Series as the E21 and E30. Larger, less boxy in design, and equipped with a dual overhead cam engine, multilink rear suspension, and a more finished interior, the E36 balances sport with luxury.

Question HIDS in fogs?

Hey guys so one of my foglights burned out so instead of getting new bulbs from pepboys or kragen im just going to wait and upgrade them to HIDS..

Since one of my foglights has a crack in them im just going to buy new foglights as well..

So if i go ahead and buy them from DDM do i need to buy the crystal ones? Or is it OK if i have HIDs in the normal foglight reflective housings?

And where do i buy the HID setup for the foglights....

thanks guys!

Do a TSX retrofit and you'll never need fogs again!

Just did the retrofit myself, these TSX projectors are ridiculous...

Here is a link:

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=441173

Google to find more of em, I'm too lazy.. :P

You'll need TSX projectors + D2S ballasts / bulbs to do this, with some kind of depo/zkw housing, I snagged everything off eBay for under 200$, just buy the entire TSX headlight and remove the projector yourself, you might save some cash, got the headlights complete for 80$ while projectors were going for 150$...

I'm trying to figure out how to mount two of these to my car: http://www.amazon.com/Hella-Rallye-Xenon-Driving-LightSingle/dp/B000JOKYI0
I do a lot of backroad driving and thusly I need real driving lights a lot more than stupid fog lights. Any ideas?

Well I have Depo headlights so i mean even when I had my fogs working they didnt really do anything. Its just the fact that I have the housings there and Im not using them.

What should i do.... Should i do a foglight delete?

If you are running the original Depo projectors from DDM/Apexcone, they are total chinese garbage, my halogens produced better light and spread then those "HIDs"

Do a TSX retrofit and if you want a fog light delete too

I'd put HIDs in your fogs as long as you have matching HIDs in your headlights, it couldn't hurt visibility. With installing those driving lights, maybe put them behind the lower grill. I have driving lights behind the grill on my Mustang. During the day they can't really be seen and when they're on you can't tell they're behind the grill.

Is it a direct fit or do you have to fabricate a mounting bracket? How about aiming?

Unless by "couldn't hurt" you mean "blinds the shit outta incoming traffic."

who here actually enjoys seeing an oncomming truck with blinding HIDs in their fogs... don't be that guy.

For aiming you just use the stock aiming adjustments at the top

True, blinding lights in your face does suck. At the same time, for me personally, I've either hit or had to dodge too much road debris and pot holes so I'm all about providing myself as much visibility and warning as possible. I'd install the HIDs, in fact I am installng the HIDs in my fogs. I'm buying the lighs from DDM, as far as the housing I can't help, I have E46 fogs.

DON'T BUY DDM CRYSTAL FOGS. I can't say much for the Depo Clear Lensed ones but I had the Apexcone Clear Lensed ones and they were utter shit. However, I only paid $30 for them so I wasn't surprised with their low quality. Why they are garbage:

1) Brackets are made with shitty plastic that breaks and can almost qualify as "one-time use" brackets as the release tab will break if you want to release the foglight. If you have an OEM ZKW foglight bracket and one of the ones from DDM in front of you, you'll notice the difference in build and material quality.

2) The actual foglights look nice. HOWEVER, the lense is not made from tempered glass and as a result will crack when exposed to temperature fluctuations. The foglight gets really hot when its on and when it rains...*crack*. They never last. I've been through 2 or 3 pairs of foglights that were not OEM and this was always the case.

3) One other thing I experienced with aftermarket fogs was that I could never depend on them 100% to both turn on when I turned them on. A LOT of times when I'd turn them on, one would be out. I'd get out and tap it with my shoe and it came on. To me that is unacceptable and I've never experienced it with OEM foglights.

My suggestion is to get a set of OEM foglights with OEM brackets and put HID's in those. I remember selling my OEM foglights for $40. What a regretful mistake.
