Tail light circuit??
So after seeing the brake light out indicator go on and off for the past few days i decided to investigate and switch some bulbs around and still the problem continues.. I know on the E36 that the actual circuitry inside gets corroded and whatnot but i didnt know if this was the same on the E39 and ifso where should i try and clean it up??
This is the first "problem" my 5er has given me since i got it 8 months ago ![]() |

Check your third center mounted brake light.

The third brake light works fine, its just the rear passenger side brake light.. all the running lights, turn signals and reverse work just fine.
Sorry if my inital thread didnt make much sense, my roommate was blasting some video of 2 hondas racing while I was trying to write this |

I had that happen on functioning bulbs. The issue was the filament wire looked rusted. Even though it worked it had a higher current draw and triggered the notice. So don't just move bulbs around, Inspect them and their filaments, then replace.

I had this problem about 3 months ago on my passenger side brake light also, but not only was my brake light not working, but either was my turn signal. Check the wire harness for any corrosion or rust. If there is some def clean it with some harness cleaner and a pipe cleaner. My ground prong on the male end was so corroded that it was completely gone, hence why my brake light wasn't working at all. I had to get a new male harness and rewire the ground. Works great now!
