| 1999 - 2005 (E46) (1999 - 2005) Starting in 1999 the E46 3 Series picked up where the E36 left off. Larger, with smoother lines, and with more advanced engines than its predecessor, the E46 easily held the title of "Best Car of the Year" throughout its life. |

Guys got a question (Kinda URGENT!)
Hey guys I've been losing fuel and its cmoing from the fuel pump on the right side I took the bench out and pulled up the insulation, took out the panel and I can't seem to be able to get the pump out I tried turning the big "nut" thing anitclockwise and that bastard just doesnt budge. Am I doing anything wrong?
One last question I have gasket maker can I use that to seal the pump or do I need something more specialized for the job? Anyways just so you know the fuel has been drained from the lines, and the tank depressurized.

Well you gotta realize those bolts probably haven't moved since your car came off the show room floor. I would just keep trying, maybe try to grease it a little with WD-40? I always have trouble getting bolts lose on my 2000 328ci.

Well its because it appears to be one big sucking nut, like 5 inches in diameter and its got a bit of rust and all. I'll give it another go at it. I'm sorta pressed for time tonight and its already dark probably going to do it on the weekend.

grab a good size flatblade screwdriver. place tip against one of the many nubs on top of the steel ring. tap scrwdriver with hammer, counterclockwise, until it starts to spin. install is reverse, but be careful not to overtighten. the threads on top of the fuel tank are plastic.
there is one rubber seal ring. nothing else should be needed to seal the pump. note that the ring should be properly placed and seated on the tank opening, then carefully install the pump. make sure the gasket ring does not slip down during install. lube is very helpful, use silicone or wd40 spray. also note that these seals do not usually fail. most of the time, it is a crack in the plastic fuel pump housing that is the source of the leak. the only time i've seen a leak from the gasket itself was due to incorrect install. |

Also make sure the hoses are on the pump tight. I recently had a massive leak on a 328 from a hose that cracked just under the hose clamp...

I was hoping it was a leak from a hose or something, it only happens when I put a full tank of gas, or at least over half a tank. The other day I put a full tank go eat at subway for maybe 20 minutes come out and there was at least 20 bucks worth of gas on the ground, cried a little.
I took out the panel and you know when you can tell a liquid has been sitting in a specific spot well it was in the impression in the tank, seems to somehow come out between the pump and the tank hard to tell cause I didnt get the pump out. I might try and do it tomorow if I'm not too lazy, take some pics to show all you guys.

Alright so I finally got around to buying and installing the new O-ring, I've never seen such an overpriced piece of rubber in my life but anyways. It costed me a total of 38 dollars and change with taxes and all.
Job took me about 40 minutes to do but can be done way quicker I like to look around and clean things make sure I'm not making any mistakes so its time consuming. I put everything back in and put some grease on both the O-ring and the fuel pump heck even on the big nut that holds everything down. I noticed that when putting the pump it hits the bottom of the tank just about 1/4 inch before resting on the tank? With a little effort of pushing down the pump the springs gave me sufficient room so that it would be flush with the tank. Is there something wrong with that? Anyways the car runs, and it doesnt seem to be leaking gas I went to put in gas but it was way to expensive to fill all the way up (gas is about 5.00 dollars a gallon)

LMAO more like the oil companies are the rich ones. Two summers ago (during the construction holidays) gas went up to 1.55 a Liter for regular and 1.61 for supreme so just over 6 dollars a gallon, and I drove to work in my Range Rover traffic for 1 hour in and one our out with the A/C on cause I couldnt take it 92.5 liters of gas a week.
Where I live gas is usually 99.9 cents a liter on Tuesdays, even sometimes Wednesday, but payday is Thrusday for a lot of people and the weekends coming so it goes up everytime at around 11:00pm Wednesday to 109.9/l and then slowly it falls especially Sunday night.
