Using a GPS to Find Speed Traps?

ok I have a GPS which is cool, but I found this online and wondered if it works like it says it does, basicly you down load poi maps that are updated as needed. when your moving around in your car, it 'alerts you' to 'known' speed traps and traffic cameras.

Sounds cool ( I want it), does anyone on here use something like this? I think there are a couple of sites that do this. this is the one I was looking at.

I have two-3 apps on my iphone that do that.

they either report locations I am well aware of (and where it is rare to see a cop anymore)
or they report that random ights are redlight cameras or photoradars...

pretty much they are useless. If you are driving somewhere new, stay within 5 over and donlt run redlights... way better than the misleading app.

lemme ask you this... if you see a speed trap, or a new camera, are you gonna grab the phone, connect to the internet, and type out that info to submit it?

Don;t rely on these database apps. they are either hopelessly out of date, or so chockful of sightings that you are getting constant alerts...

Like when cops learned 20 years ago to hide in supermarket parking lots to catch people with radar detectors.

Apparently you only have Iphone experience. I'd like to hear if anyone used phantom alert. If you're travelling somwhere new, you'll always have your GPS on. Plus, it's user updated. And the website updates it from public municipal websites. So, anyone else?

It has GPS as good as anything else I've used in the last 6 years. One of my free iphone apps uses the same DB because it has the same Non-Existant Photo camera locations and missing school zones as phantom alert
(a non- existant alert).

That Phantom Alert thing looks near useless. It doesn't have dozens of common traps in my area. Trapster is the best I've seen, but I rarely use it. Mostly for driving out of town. I report traps far more than I actually use it when driving.

I have the OEM GPS system in my M3 and have modified it so that it has all the speed cameras loaded and gives me an alert (on screen and audio), I update the DB once or twice a month and for me it works fine.

I've also modded the OEM OS so that I get a load of other features, custom splash, sky pointers, custom text, POI alerts, alert on/off function, and nightmode for when driving at night (to cut down on glare).

Here are some pics.

i reported another 3 non-existant 'photo cameras' today...

doesn't make any difference, they aren;t being removed from the DB so I get 4 phantom alerts on my commute... and no real ones.

None of the redlight cameras triggered any warning... good thing they have big signs warning you it is a redlight camera!
