New(ish) BMW owner, and I want to introduce myself and ask a few CPO questions.

Well, first I'm the happy owner of a 06 330i w/ Sport Pack! I've wanted this car since college and now after working for awhile figured I'd get me the Ultimate Driving Machine! She is amazing but i do have some questions regarding some issues I came across.

Before talking about the issues, the car still has it's original warranty til January, so my question is can all the issues below be fixed for free with her original warranty?

First issue are the headlights, I noticed that one of the Xenon headlights is off by a few inches, can it be serviced?

Second the steering wheel is off a bit, meaning that when my tires are straight, the steering will is slight to the left.

Lastly and the biggest, I'm noticed that my rear bumper had what appeared as small bubbles. Upon closer inspection it seems the very tiny lumps is the paint separating from the bumper. I noticed this while back but thought it was rain droplets.

So as I said I would love the warranty to cover these issues for free, esp the paint issue.

Also, last question, scheduling a service at the BMW Dealership, I live far from the dealership I purchased my car from. There's one dealership much closer to my house, is it any problem to just go to the closer one?

Sorry for the long posting, although i have these issues, this car is by far the best car i have ever driven!

:-)

1st issue: How can you tell they are off?? please elaborate. In any case, any issue with the headlights should be covered by warranty.
2nd issue: You need an alignment done but that is not covered under warranty. Should be around 150$ anyway.
3rd issue: Was the car in an accident? Maybe the bumper was repainted. Was it CPO? If not CPO then if the bumper was repainted, then no warranty applies. Take it in and they will be able to verify, they should be able to tell if it had been repainted.
4th: Other than the possibility of not getting a free loaner, you can take it to any dealership.
Congrats and enjoy.

I found years ago that it was wise to become friends with the service advisor at the dealership. When stuff like this comes up they can take care of you the way you want to be treated. If the car is CPO, then chances are there was no accident since they do not CPO cars that were wrecked. But small unreported crashes can slip through the cracks.

Yo guys, he said the original warranty is still in force until January. All of that, except probably for the alignment, should be covered. I'd even argue for correcting the steering wheel issue under warranty. In any event, I bought my car in Florida and am having it serviced -- under the original warranty -- here in Pennsylvania. No problems. I believe BMWNA pays them for the warranty work, so they're happy to see me.

You take it to Otto's? I'm from glen mills, heading up there tonight to possibly buy a 335i. There is one little fault (the steering wheel emblem is dented and beat up), are they pretty good on service?

Welcome...I'm a bit newish to the E90 as well.

Headlight- the pattern is not uniform, it doesn't go as far on the left side.

My steering wheel does the same thing. An alignment and reset of the steering angle sensor is required, you likely just need toe adjusted. How's your tire pressures?

I had bubbles on the left side of the top section of the bumper near the taillight, you?

Go to your favorite dealer...for me I tried a few.

Good luck

+1, but unfortunately my dealership has a high turnover rate. However I do know the service manager well, not friends or anything, he just knows I have been a loyal customer for 11 years and that comes in handy sometimes.

The headlights are not uniform. The drive's side is aimed differently so that it does not blind oncoming drivers.

Guys thanks for all the replies! This is really helpful. So to clear some things up, yes my car still has the original warranty til January.
As for the Lights, the passenger side lights arepointing lower then the driver's side lights. I wasn't too sure if that is the correct config for it.

The paint issue, the bubbles appear on the top side of my bumper too. I'm not too sure if it was painted due to an accident, but she is a CPO so i'm pretty sure that's not the case.

Thanks for the great input guys!

Newsflash:

CPO cars can be repainted and wrecked as long as they're repaired properly (totally subjective but probably requires all oem parts), they can still be CPO'd.

They can repaint for CPO and they do not have to declare anything if it is just minor (i.e. not a serious accident). So since it is CPO, I would talk to the original dealer based on that fact, a CPO should not have that defect and they should be taking care of it for you.

Yeah, who ever painted it had to offer a warranty on their paintwork...it was likely the BMW dealer.

When my latest car came in the dealer called me about it and told me that they just got one in that is like what I was looking for, but they had to CPO it. He said that once they CPO it and get the clean carfax back he would call and let me know if it passed CPO. i asked about the carfax and he explained that a clean carfax is one of the criteria to receive CPO. First time I ever heard that but sure enough, it was in the documents he provided me. Had I not bought 6 new BMWs from him over the past 10 years I would of thought he was yanking my chain. He then reminded me of another car earlier this year they got in but did not pass CPO and I did not buy it. It was a dirty carfax full of problems that resultede in its failing CPO.

I saw a ZHP at my local dealer being sold as a CPO. I looked at the front bumper and I could tell it was painted. There were obvious places were you could tell they didn't sand it property and just painted over rock chips, further more only one of the two foglights were replaced (one was new the other was fogged up)

Don't always believe that the dealer is selling you a perfect car.
