Infinity Basslink II Install in 97 528i E39 with DSP

So, I'm a recent new BMW owner (first one) and I've purchased an Infinity Basslink II 10" sub and am getting ready to install it into my 97 528i E39, which has DSP and cd changer in the back of course, this weekend with some friends. I did a bit of research and am now more confused than I was prior. Basically, I've read posts stating that it's impossible to install this since I have DSP and then I've also read that I totally can.

I'm looking for some definitive answers on what my installation options are, the pros, cons, etc. First, is this possible? Should I use a line converter? Is it possible to splice into the sound system somewhere where the signal is analog? What wiring diagram should I follow? Etc.

I'd SINCERELY appreciate any help I can get so that I'm prepared to properly do the install this weekend. Thank you in advance all!

It is possible.

The Basslink has speaker level inputs, yes?

You can connect it to the sub speaker wires going to the rear deck enclosure those are analog and vary with volume... the HU-to-amp wires are also analog, but do not vary with volume.

...At which point it will sound like ass, not because you have DSP, but because it is a Basslink. They all sound like ass.

Hey, you're in Portland! I have a friend with an E39 here who has a hi-fi system. We de-DSP'd her car. If you want to listen to it, she might be OK with that if we get her a 6-pack of beer...

Here's a guide covering the installation process of the Basslink into your E39. Simply click on the "Install Info" tab above the main image.

We also have a video showing the connections being made in a NON DSP car, so while the wire colors will vary, you'll still get to see how connections are made as well as a solid location for grounding your Basslink:

Hope this helps, and enjoy your new setup!

She's cute, very smart, she plays soccer and golf, and she has a killer Zapco/DLS system in a 530i Sport.

Yes it does have speaker level inputs. I spoke to one of my friends last night who had a sub installed in his newer BMW, which had DSP as well. He has a line converter unit that he used and he said he honestly didn't notice any quality issues. I'm not necessarily looking for world class sound here. I just want a little extra added bass to the car.

I don't know if I want to go all the way to the rear deck enclosure? That might be more work than I care to do for this simple install no? Again, shouldn't this be as simple as tapping into the wires by the cd changer for the line converter and running that along with power to the basslink?

As for meeting up to check out your friend's sound system, I might be down for that

Jason, this does help quite a bit. I found the guide for the DSP version and will be reading through it when I get the opportunity. Thank you for sending this!
