Well upon further looking into the car and discussing it with my wife. It is the 540i and manual (hard to find manual so I'm told) so if I'm not mistaken it is the V8? Or not necessarily untill I figure the year out?

correct.

However, there is NO 6spd V8 wagon available in the US, unless it was retrofitted/custom.

Well, should be getting the wagon in 1-2 weeks. (pictures to come after detailing)

few more questions-

1. Leatherique (recommended?)

2. The headlights are bad (don't think wet-sanding bad) any recommendations on what to use to shine them up?

3. The trim under the headlights and the licence plate holder (rear) and kinda coming off (double-sided tape or something else you guys use) recommendations?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

search, the first two questions have been discussed in depth; but, i'll indulge:

1) Check the detailing forum - there will be far more concentrated information by people who know [for the most part] what they're doing/talking about.

2) I think wetsanding is still your best option, check to make sure the adjusters aren't broken, too. Both E39s I've owned (98 and 99 540) have come with foggy headlights and at least one assembly on each car had broken adjusters inside - both were OEM halogen, not HID. You might also look into DJauto lights from one of the various vendors, they're a pretty okay 2001+ Hella knock-off headlight assembly.

3) The trim under the headlights probably just popped out - you'll see how it fits if/when you remove the headlights. I'm not sure what you mean by rear license-plate holder is coming off? The holder i've seen is just two plastic inserts that get a bolt in them, perhaps you mean just the plate's vanity cover?

Adjusters in those lights break, too; and, they're a bit harder to pull apart as they're glued and need to be baked/heated to soften the adhesive.

So the date is set. I'm getting the car this thanksgiving weekend (finally after fighting about a fair price) here are the details.

2000 540iT w/88k miles M-sport (manual, don't think it's the 6 speed)
paying 5,500 for it (what a freaking deal) is a dark green (oxford?) and picture s to come possibly this weekend.

It cannot be manual and 540 wagon - plain and simple. It's probably Steptronic (automatic w/ manual shift option). If they insist is has a clutch pedal it's a 6 cylinder or it was custom swapped or custom ordered/imported.

Did you get a VIN?
