Dinan Sway Bar - same bushings as a normal front sway bar?

I bought a front Dinan sway bar from a member here because it was cheap, I hate body roll, and for me, over-steer equates to +50hp.

I want to install it with the other members at the Raleigh meet on the 7th, so I figured I would get some new sway bushings, as mine is most likely original after 183k miles.

Do I just get the normal sway bar bushings, or do they have to be different?

Thanks, (I did search first, btw)

Trevor

If the swaybar is thicker then your gonna need bushings to suit.

You installed a thicker (presumably) front bar to get more oversteer?

Unless it's just 1mm or so, you will need different bushings.

Buy polyurethane bushings at powerflexusa.com and they have bushings in different sizes to match your sway bar thickness.

go here

If they don't have bushings of your size you can porbably find them at dinan's website. Nevermind, I just did that and found that the front bar is 25mm so you can buy the busings at powerflex. there you go.

If you want to buy cheaper ones I think M5 sway bar bushings in the front are also 25mm so you can buy those at the stealer if you wish. They are $18 each at pelican.

like above, 25mm bushings are needed for the front bar (either aftermarket poly, or oe m5). Probably not a bad idea to replace the end links too.

but, a bigger front bar is going to increase understeer, not oversteer.

I forgot to subscribe to this thread, so I am sorry it took me so long time to get back to those of you who replied.

I now realize how dumb I was in asking if I needed different bushings or not. I was incorrectly imagining how the bushings were mounted (which is dumb, because I remember unbolting the sway bar via the bracket that surrounds the bushings),and for some reason thought the bushings fit around the tapered end of the swap bar, which of course makes no sense.

Yeah, you are right.

I just picked it up because it was cheap and I wanted to experiment, and feel the difference for myself.

There is a good chance I will take it off and wait until I can balance it out with a rear sway bar.

Thanks a lot for this post PetesHelga, it helped a lot. I will probably go with the Powerflex bushings, but I am going to try them out with the bushings that the bar came with, they seem to be in good enough shape to hold off with buying the $50 powerflex bushings.

I look forward to putting this on and seeing if I can tell a difference or not.
