1991 - 1999 (E36) (1991 - 1999) The first modern 3 Series, the E36, was the model that paved the way for the 3 Series to be named "Car of the Year" every year since the model was driving off showroom floors. Radically redesigned in 1992, the E36 was not the same 3 Series as the E21 and E30. Larger, less boxy in design, and equipped with a dual overhead cam engine, multilink rear suspension, and a more finished interior, the E36 balances sport with luxury.

loud noice

as i accelerate, a loud noice or hum comes from the back of the car but sounds to be from the drivers side. noiced it starts at about 20mph and gets really loud at around 70mph. it sounds like an out of balance wheel sound but its just way to loud to be a balance problem... idk any ideas? thanks

Probably wheel bearing. Get going like 40mph or so and rock the car back and forth. When the weight is off that wheel if the sound goes away it is a wheel bearing.

An out of balance wheel would hit a sweet spot where the entire car vibrated violently.

Next stop: differential. Check the fluid.

an out of balance wheel would vibrate, not hum. and as stated, it would shake like crazy at a certain speed. if you already changed the wheel bearings, then i would look at the diff. its probably low on fluid or getting tired
