1999 - 2005 (E46) (1999 - 2005) Starting in 1999 the E46 3 Series picked up where the E36 left off. Larger, with smoother lines, and with more advanced engines than its predecessor, the E46 easily held the title of "Best Car of the Year" throughout its life.

Question Sunroof shade off track

Help...
My sunroof shade will only open about 2 inches and is off track. It just kind of flops around up there in that 2 inches. However, when I slide the sunroof back the shade will go with it, though I am afraid it will get stuck back there.
Anyone else experienced this problem or know the fix?

Mine is off track as well. But it still moves all the way back, you just have to mess with it for a while. It doesn't like to stay put though if the windows are down, it jumps all around.

This seems to be a common problem with that vintage of 3 series. The typical fix (if memory serves me) is to replace some clips in there. I've had it done at least a couple times.

If the drive for the shade is damaged, you will need the full updated repair kit to fix this. Will require new shade as well. Sunroof cassette has to come out to do this repair.

If the drive is ok, the sunshade clips can be replaced.

Isnt it a shame I avoide opening ANY windows on my car in fear of them breaking.....
Last time I opened my sun roof, I heard what I THOUGHT was a crack or something along those lines. I shut it and havnt opened it since, along with my front passenger side window. I got cocky and opened my driver side rear window, now thats screwed to hell....

mine had that problem when i bought it, made the dealer fix it lol.

the clips arent expensive, but its a rain pain to get to it / fit it. follow the diy and you should be golden, then wait for your door seal to start drooping lol
