Thumbs up The New HPF Stage 3 - There's a new Bad Boy in Town!!!

Want a daily driveable M3 with over 800rwhp and as little lag as a stock M3 with no turbo? We just hit pay dirt with a new dual ball bearing, water cooled, Precision Turbo with a smaller wheel (71 instead of 74) but one that utilizes the new billet wheel technology. In 4th gear this amazing turbo spools as fast as our stage 2.5 but the power just keeps on going all the way to over 800rwhp!!

There were several reasons to make this change, but the most important was to make our stage 3 M3's beat our stage 2.5 M3's which are EXTREMELY FAST from 60-130mph and beyond as we've seen from several of our stage 2.5 customers. The only way to do that was to improve the powerband by creating more area under the curve using a much faster spooling turbo while still retaining the big time power on the big end.

Results Achieved
  • Significantly more area under the horsepower curve creating a longer powerband in every gear
  • Boost achieved as fast as our stage 2.5 with a smaller Precision 67 series turbo.
  • Less boost lost in between shifts creating wicked fast shifting
  • Less tire shredding by providing a more manageable powerband and the ability to get in and out of the throttle without losing as much boost.
  • Increased torque at low rpms allowing each stage 3 M3 to get out of the hole fast!
We're super excited about these results and this turbo will now be standard for all new stage 3 customers. We can provide the new turbo and tune to existing stage 3 customers at a discount and we can help with buyers for your current 74 series turbos to help offset the costs. We still have a few days to finalize the tuning and create the pump gas maps, so this new turbo setup won't be released for another week or two.

Here's a video of the testing today...

Here are the dyno results

PUMP GAS ONLY

PUMP GAS + METHANOL

RACE FUEL ONLY

RACE FUEL + METHANOL

STAGE 3 vs Stage 2

Note the increased spool of the stage 3 over the stage 2...

Congrats,

but what about results with PUMP gas?
Dyno queen results are good for a fish tale,
but what about everyday power?

Or do your customers regularly purchase race fuel for their Ms?

Awesome, this is Robert's car right?? IIRC, that is his name. EDIT: I see this is robert's car.... I just watched the video.
I need to to tell Rich about this upgrade.

Props again HPF!!!
ONE QUESTION: is anymore boost having to be used to achieve the same result??
I hope so.... this in itself proves that the new billet wheels flow more and spool better.

This was done at the exact same level of boost!! This is some major props for the new turbo.

Stay tuned for pump gas numbers using the new turbo tomorrow.

Chris.

Good stuff Chris. While it may not look like much, it really is a significant difference.

Chris.
Thanks for the update Chris! That is quite the turbo!

I have been reading about the new Precision billet turbos for a bit. I have been trying to decide on which one to go for. Now with this ability one can have the power of the larger turbo and spool of the smaller turbo. I am thinking that you maxed the 71 out? If that is the case then 800whp is the safety max with 110+meth. What if someone is looking for 900whp? Do they have a new billet 74? Is that what you will be trying on the Stage 4 next? I'm thinking if I sell both my 67dbb and 76 journal bearing I can pick up a billet dbb 74 with 0.96 a/r. I think that might be the overall killer right thar!

Does this 71 have a 0.81 a/r or 0.96 a/r hot side?

Cam, I believe the video said 0.81 a/r IIRC.

Woops you are right! I didn't bother watching the video. Thanks!

Wow I hope that HPF can make 900whp with the 74 dbb billet version and a 0.81 a/r hot side for their Stage 4!!!!

I updated my first post with our final results....

Notice from the first graph that the stage 3 now outspools every product we have including stage 1 and 2 which are on a high compression engine with a much smaller turbo. On pump gas alone, our new stage 3 gets into power significantly quicker and makes more power than the stage 2 when using race gas + methanol. The spool difference is quite dramatic. Driving this car is like coming out of a sling shot, power delivery is so incredibly smooth and it keeps on pulling very similar to a jet on takeoff.

The stage 3 kit made 817rwhp at 23psi. We rarely see that much power for such a small amount of boost in the Supra world, especially with a turbo that can out-spool a T67.

Stage 3 vs Stage 2

damn.... Im impressed!!! Now, you all need to update the stage 4 kit.

So, is the end result= more traction or less traction since the power comes on smoother and earlier??

Also, race gas alone is pointless. It only makes 2HP more than pump & meth. I hope no one buys just race gas.

Thats the point of methanol, increase octane and cool the charge. Your trying to make race fuel for the street.

OMG amazing Chris!

Stage 3 on pump makes more than Stage 2 on race + meth? Wow!

800whp might be enough for a turbo that spools like this. I mean this is an absolute street demon!

Street blasting videos NOW please!

I know... I was just stating the fact of it being little power increase. They usually still see ~20+rwhp when the do a race gas pull.

Either the whole new kit is awesome.

This is really sweet, amazing power, but I still am failing to see the torque you talked about in the first post.

I don't think HPF has ever been able to provide torque just because they always lose it.

But daammmn. This new turbo is making a sexy difference.
