Rear Tire Wobble...Please help

Hi, Gang
I was riding down the road the other day minding my own business...this guy rolled up to my right, and signaled me to down my windows...i'm thinking this must be a fellow e30 enthusiasts giving me props. Instead "your left rear wheel is wobbling!!!". I'm thinking SH*T. Went home that day, put the rear on jacks and put car in 5th...and sure enough...left wheel is wobbling *not noticeable during driving*. I've since changed tires but its still there...please give me all the advice/help

(other thread http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1326983 regarding what i think is the drive shaft, but im not entirely sure now)

How much is it wobbling?

Failed tire carcass? Bent wheel? Loose lugbolts? If not, remove wheel and lift rear end with jackstands.. Start car, let it idle in gear and see if rear rotor wobbles. See what wobbles and what doesn't. Find the first thing that wobbles and either tighten or replace it.

failed/failing wheel bearing (assuming you put a different wheel on when you said you changed tires)

Take the wheel off and check the run-out at the brake rotor.

I once had an ATE brake rotor that was machined with non-parallel surfaces on the hat. It took me about two years to figure out the problem. It's unlikely that you have the same problem, but it's a good place to isolate the problem to the hub or to the wheel.

I would be surprised if a bad CV shaft ends up being the cause.

No, unless the wheel bearing AND the halfshaft (driveshaft with CV joints) are both bad...

oh thanks..will do first thing tomor

got it looked at by a mechanic today...says it may be the axle. is that true (/potentially(?. can someone please explain to me what the difference between the halfshaft (driveshaft with CV joints) and axle? pictures would be much appreciated; im too confused to differentiate the aforementioned parts

#1 is the halfshaft (axle shaft with 2 CV joints).

I don't see how this could cause the wheel to wobble- I still vote for the rear wheel bearing.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....much thanks...would you happen to have pics of the wheel bearing?
http://www.teamdfl.com/bmw/e30/rear_...ngs/index.html

would you say they are good writeups? (this will most likely be a shop job...but just for interest)

wheel did not move side-to-side. other suggestions?
