Rattle in 330CI back speaker component???

I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem. I have a 2001 330CI with the Harmon Kardon speaker upgrade. When I turn the radio up with the bass not even level, I hear a rattle coming from the back speaker component. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there are any suggestions on how to get this fixed. Thanks

yes its a pretty common problem... take it to the dealer, they should be able to pad the rear deck to take out most of the rattle...

oh hmmm, well in that case... you can try taking your car to like a car audio shop that does installs and stuff... they might be a little more experienced in getting rid of rattles and stuff...

i fixed it myself in my 01 325Ci. took me 20 minutes and it hase been like that for over a year and a half and i havent heard a rattle since and the bass quality is so much better. This is what i did....

edit: **first thing is to remove the plugs in the back of the subwoofer**

    1) Remove the 4 bolts from the subwoofer (smaller wrench in your trunk toolkit is a perfect fit)
    2) theres 2 white plastice tabs hold the subwoofer in still. pull down hard. Your not going to break anything, they click in and out and need a little muscle to pull them out.
    3) stuff the surrounding campartment w/ towels/shirts/socks whatever you want. just pack it in as much and as hard as you car to secure the rear deck in place. dont cover the area about the subwoofer however. leave that area open
    4) clip the sub back in place and screw it back it.
    5) plug the wires back in the subwoofer

thats what i did. i havent had any problems since. you can try it. let me know how it works if you do.

i hated that rattle it made the car sound so cheap. my girlfriend would always say something because whenever you turned the sounds up the least bit, it would rattle like crazy and i was always so embarrased. lol. good luck.

    Hey Mark--

Thanks a bunch for the idea of the towels/shirts and socks. It worked like a charm. Thanks again

    I have a better solution.

I took off the HK subs, There was a hole in the center, I used a 3/8" diameter 3" long hex screw (or carrier bolt) and put it through the hole. Before you do this, Put a nut on the bolt (all the way down) and then insert the bolt through the hole. Next, put the other nut on, and sandwhich the piece of metal there.

Fixed my rattle completely, costs about 2$ depending on where you go for the stuff.

yeah, that was the other option that i had heard of but i could remember exactly what you did w/ the bolt so i didnt say it. Either way does the job so what works, works.

heh guys I put up with the rattle noise for 2yrs in my 330ci with the HK system. It took 20 mins for my local car audio shop to implement Daltons and Kassels fix. Use the bolt option its a bit easier unless you have alot of old T-shirts ;0)). the rattle has gone and now i can listen to heavy bass with the volume turned right down knowing people wont criticise the rattle. thanks for the tips guys

synthetic or cotton socks? can they be logo'd shirts or do they have to be polos with a collar? will my car sound "cooler" if I pop the collars in said polo shirts before I install them?

anyways - great tips, the rattle has been really bugging me - will definitely look into this.

I just fixed my 2001 330ci using the bolt technique. I used a 2 1/2 inch carrier bolt instead of a hex, only because home depot did not have a 3 inch hex bolt without the spacer before the head.

works like a charm though. By using the bolt to apply upward pressure on the rear deck from below the whole area no longer vibrates or rattles from the harmon kardon subwoofer.

Thanks Dude! what a simple solution
